Yolanda Aryia Upton(June 11, 1965) is a Jesstopian politician who has served as the 25th Speaker Pro tempore Of the House Of The People since 2020. She returned to her role as Speaker Pro Tempore on January 17, 2025, following the swearing in of Matthew Carrington as the 33rd Speaker Of The House, after a special election to fill the vacant Speaker's chair. She is currently serving as the secretary of the Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington Since he assumed that role as required by House rules, following the resignation of Gretchen LeWolf. She was elected on November 10, 2020 and is up for reelection in September 2022. She will be seeking another term in office. Yolanda also served as a Military as a Combat Medic from 1986 - 1996. She is a decorated war veteran.
Early Life[]
Born on July 11, 1965, Upton was born to parents Arthur Upton and Patricia Upton. She has 4 brothers, and 5 sisters. She grew up in Rufus County, but her family moved to Samson, New Shire in 1970, when she was just 5 years old. Her dad worked as a travelling salesman, and her mother stayed at home to care for her and her siblings.
Speaker Pro Tempore Of The House(2020-Present)[]
Upton won the 2020 Speaker Pro Tempore House election, and was sworn in on November 10, 2020. She was appointed to fill any vacancy left by the Speaker or Deputy Speaker posts, but hasn't yet had to serve as acting Speaker or Deputy Speaker. She was reelected to the post on September 25, 2022. She will be sworn in for a second term as House Speaker Pro Tempore on November 10, 2022.
First Term(2020-2022)[]
Upton's first term began at noon on November 10, 2020, and will conclude on November 10, 2022, when she will be sworn in for a second term. During her tenure she worked alongside both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House Of The People. She holds very little power, but is an important figure to the successful operation of the house.
Second Term(2022-2024)[]
Upton's second term began on November 10, 2022 at noon. Her second term will end on November 10, 2024. She has said that she will seek a third term, and will likely win. She also said that she is considering a possible run for House Speaker in 2025.
Third Term(2024-Present)[]
Upton's third term began on November 10, 2024, after winning the job in a special House election. She left office when Matthew Carrington, assumed the role of Speaker Pro Tempore. She says she will not seek another term as Speaker Pro Tempore, but did say she is hoping to be reelected to the House. She briefly left office as Matthew Carrington assumed to the role as Speaker Pro Tempore from January 5 until January 17, 2025. She returned to the role following Carrington being elected as the 33rd Speaker Of The House during a special vote in the House on January 17, 2025.
