The N.S.T.A announced early in March 2022, that it was seeking an alternative to keeping the Rufus County International Airport open, and by June 1, 2022, it decided to vote on whether to keep Rufus County International Airport open or to close it. On June 4, 2022, they voted to close down the Rufus County International Airport, after Rufus-Nimitz International Airport is built.
