Leanne [nee. Brisbon]Basett(June 5, 1964 - January 10, 2024) was a Jesstopian lawyer and jurist who served on the Supreme Court of the United States Of Jesstopia from 2018 until 2024. She was the first Women of color to serve on the Supreme Court. She was hand selected by then-Chief Justice Evan Laylin. She was instrumental into passing the 2022 Codification of Abortion as a women's fundamental constitutional right.
Early Life[]
Born in Green Acres, a suburb of Little Rock, New Shire on June 5, 1964, into a family of 5. Her brothers were he inspiration for getting into the legal field. Her brother Kirk Brisbon and Marty Brisbon were police officers shot and killed while conducting a search warrant. She attended Little Rock Senior High School. She graduated as one of the top GPA's in her school. She then went on to attend Yale Law School.
Grainger Assistant District Attorney(1986-1996)[]
Basett served as the Assistant District Attorney City Of Grainger, New Shire, from 1986 until her appointment as the District Attorney for Rufus County, New Shire in 1996. During her tenure, she prosecuted her first major case, involving a gruesome murder of 12 family members. The case awarded her national attention, whe she was picked up by hundreds of state agencies that wanted her to represent them as the personal attorney. She turned them down.
She was instrumental in the arrest of former Grainger Mayor Billy Hecox 1995, who was wanted in connection in 25 rapes across the country. For her efforts Bill Hecox was sentenced to life in prison. Hecox only served 5 years before he was beaten to death by fellow inmates.
Rufus County District Attorney(1996-2004)[]
From 1996 until 2004, Basett served as the District Attorney for Rufus County, New Shire. During her time as DA, she spearheaded over 2,500 cases, most of them homicide cases. She played a key role in holding major corporations responsible for work related deaths and even had 5 corporations shut down for their repeated death reports. She also was instrumental in prosecuting drug cases that saw the deaths of 15,000 New Shirens between 1998 - 2004. In 2004, she left the DA's office in Rufus County, to become a the DA for North Point, New Shire.
North Point District Attorney(2004-2018)[]
Basett than went on to be appointed the District Attorney for North Point, New Shire. She played a key role in fighting the corruption within the North Point County Counsel(now defunct). Over 200 council members were impeached under her office investigations. A majority of the corruption came from council members abusing their powers and violating financial reporting laws.
Supreme Court Of The United States Of Jesstopia(2018-2024)[]
On August 5, 2018, Associate Justice Nancy Raggow retired, creating on vacancy on the Supreme Court. Basett's name had been thrown around by Jessy The Great III, but he didn't formally announce her as his Supreme Court pick until August 25, 2018. On November 16, 2018, just 6 days after the death of Jessy The Great III, Basett was officially confirmed by the Jesstopian Senate, to serve as an associate justice of the Supreme Court.
During her tenure on the Supreme Court, she heard cases on issues including Reproductive rights, something that she supported heavily during her time on the bench, Constitutional rights violations appeals, federal murder cases and legislative appeal cases. She served as a deciding vote in 2022, when President John McCallum's 2022 Reproductive Rights Codification was called into question. She voted in favor of the law getting signed, citing that "A women can choose what she does with her body and no government can stop that from happening."
Her time on the bench ended on January 10, 2024, when she died from pnuemonia. She was 59 and served 5 years on the bench.
Death[]

Basett fell ill with some form a respiratory illness on December 15, 2023, following a get together with family for the holidays. By December 22, 2023, she was rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was prescribed antibiotics, and sent home. At roughly 2:30 PM, Basett was found unresponsive by her sons. Emergency Services were called. Upon arrival, EMS declared her dead. Basett was approved for a State funeral and will lay in state at the Capitol until January 15, 2024, when she is buried at the Nationalist House Burial Grounds. She will be given several posthumous awards for her dedication to public service and women's rights.
Her work on the abortion codification in the Jesstopian Constitution remains one of her most prominent accomplishments as she ruled that it is "fundamentally a women's right to choose what she does with her body and no man should be telling a women what she can and cannot do with her body."
On January 15, 2024, Bassett was laid to rest at the Nationalist House Burial Grounds, the final resting place of important political figures including former Presidents, Vice Presidents, Congress Members and Supreme Court Justices.
