Larry Burton Cofelt(September 3, 1947) is a Jesstopian politician who currently serves as a Senator from New Shire's 15th Senate District. He also currently serves as the 15th Senate Majority Leader since August 9, 2023. He previously served as the interim Senate Majority Leader from June 30, 2023 until August 9, 2023. Cofelt is a member of the Nationalist Party. He is seeking election during the 2025 Congressional Elections, to become the Speaker Of The House Of The People.
Early Life[]
Cofelt was born on September 3, 1947 in Samson, New Shire to parents Conny Aimb-Cofelt and Donald Cofelt. He has two sisters and a brother. Cofelt attended Archer Private School and graduated in 1964 on Honor Roll. He moved to Rincent Park, New Shire when he left home to focus on his political career. Rincent Park is also where he met his girlfriend, and later wife, Michelle Cofelt.
Senate(1982-Present)[]
Cofelt first won election to serve as the Senator from New Shire's 19th Senate District. He won that election during the 1982 Senatorial Election. He served as the Senator for New Shire's 19th District from 1982 until 1986. From there he served as the Senator from New Shire's 30th Senate District from 1986 until 2002, when he looked to be elected the New Shire's 29th Senate District. He successfully won that office during the 2002 Senate Elections. On September 15, 2010, he was elected to serve the New Shire State's 15th Senate District. He has served in that role since 2010.
On June 9, 2015, Cofelt was appointed the Senate Majority Whip, a role he served in until 2023, when he was appointed to serve as interim Senate Majority Leader following the death of Senate Majority Leader Brad Newsom on June 30, 2023. On June 30, 2023, he became the interim Senate Majority Leader.
2023 Senate Majority Leader Election[]
On June 30, 2023, following the death of then-Senate Majority Leader Brad Newsom, Cofelt became the interim Senate Majority Leader, as that office can not be left vacant per constitutional requirements. According to the party, they say he is the strongest candidate to become the 15th Senate Majority Leader of the Senate. The Senate Majority of the Nationalist Party, allows it to select who it wants as the Majority Leader. He would only serve until 2024 or when the party loses control or no longer favors the person who holds the seat.
The election was held in the manner of a vote by the Nationalist Party on August 5, 2023, but the vote stalled when a tied vote resulted. The party is scheduled to host a second vote on August 9, 2023. The party says "the need for us to elect a permanent Senate Majority Leader is crucial to the operations of the Senate. The vote will be held at 4:00 PM.
On August 9, 2023, at around 9:55 PM, the results of the vote were released. Cofelt received 82.6% of the vote while Murdock only 13.8 % of the votes. Cofelt was sworn in as the 15th Senate Majority Leader on August 10, 2023.
