Interstate 890 is a major Interstate route that connects New Shire to Lorray via Interstate 90 which extends New Shire's arm to the State of Lorray. Interstate 85 extends downtown Frankfurt, New Shire to Peach Tree City, and extends East Towards the State Of Brighton. Interstate 890 also connects New Shirens to East Acacia.

History[]

Interstate 890 was planned as a Major JS Route, before being designated a major Interstate Highway in the Jesstopian Highway System. The interstate only runs North-South and plans to construct a East-West configured interstate were introduced but the vote to authorize funding for it failed.

Expansion[]

On June 15, 2023, Governor Thomas Cooke authorized a proposal to build a tunnel for North-Southbound lanes of the Interstate to run under the Rufus County International Airport, with work expected to have started on June 10, 2024. Work on the expansion and construction commenced weeks prior, and work to begin digging out the work space commenced on May 4, 2024. Pavement work and support walls begin being installed in late July, with work going on until February 20, 2025. The road was paved from February 20, 2025 until it's completion on February 24, 2025.

Additional expansion projects have been in talks within the State legislature, but Governor Lynn Rodgers isn't likely to approve them without seeing the proposals being completed ready for presentation. Governor Rodgers is the sole approver of the expansion of the State's interstate roadways, therefore, the State House and Senate need to draft a resolution, pass it as a bill, and send it to her desk. That could take at least 6-12 months. Meaning additional expansion work would not start until 2026-2027.
