He successfully defeated Nationalists challenger Derek Morgan with a landslide on November 10, 2008. Sperry also won every consecutive election since 2008 without much effort. During his almost 9 years in the State Senate, he help pass more legislation for protecting State law enforcement than any other pro-law enforcement senator in the State senate.
He enacted laws that targeted violent crimes and reduced crimes in the state by 52%, and murder rates also decreased by 27%. His senate career did however see incarceration rates increase by 72% from previous years. His tough on crime attitude is translating nicely into his 2024 bid for Jordan's Governor's Office. His policy allowed criminals to be held without bail, something that the Nationalist Governor David Roberts reversed in a 2022 through executive order 10056 and 10059.
In December 2022, Sperry announced plans to impeach Governor David Roberts after the State House was made aware of criminal offenses related to finance fraud. The issue was pushed to the Senate, where State Senators voted to impeach and then eventually remove the Governor. The vote passed the Senate but failed to pass in the House, which is Nationalist controlled.
