The 2024 Anti-LGBTQ Protest shooting was a mass shooting that occurred on September 8, 2024, at 12:13 AM, in front of the New Shire State Capitol building. Police were able to quickly identify the shooter and brought him into custody. Police say that 20 people suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene. 12 others were rushed to the hospital with varying injuries but all are expected to survive.

The shooter has been identified as 22 year transgender man, Danielle(Daniel) O'Leary. The shooter told police that he had a known history of mental problems, but never was involuntarily put into a psychiatric center. The shooter, according to police, does have a criminal record. The shooter has begun refusing to answer authorities' questioning. Investigators still don't know why the shooter shot and killed twenty and how the shooter got access to the guns. The shooter didn't divulge much information after initially speaking to authorities.

Investigation[]

Investigators are still collecting evidence to build a case against the shooter, while trying to understand why the shooting happened. According to interrogators and detectives, the shooter is refusing to answer any questions but has yet to waive his right to remain silent. Investigators sent the shooter back to jail and says they would try in about a day.

On September 11, 2024, police released the name of the shooter. Investigators then say they had hundreds of phone calls come in expressing concern for the shooter's home life, as well as the easy to access to guns. The shooter's neighbors said that he had a extreme history of physical and verbal abuse against his parents and siblings. Neighbors claim that the suspect had been arrested 12 times before.
