NEWS 28 - Cambridge Prime Minister Fredrick Ricketts provided a statement regarding the shooting that critically injured Jesstopian President Jay Laylin. The shooting took place on Sunday morning a little before 10 AM. World leaders across the world are slowly issuing statements regarding the statement.

NEWS 28 - Less than 48 hours ago, President Jay Laylin was shot in the face while attending a speaking event, but investigators are now still struggling to get any leads about the whereabouts of the president's shooter. Their lack of answers has begun angering Laylin supporters.

"We understand the anger that the Jesstopian people are feeling right now, but we must remember to let the justice system to take care of the arrest and sentencing," said FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson. "We don't want anyone to get in trouble for trying to be a vigilante and face criminal charges. We will bring this monster to justice, we just need our citizens help us, and not hinder our strong case by interfering with our work. Again, we understand the anger that our nation is feeling right now, and we get that you want street justice. That is not the way our country works and our Justice system will sort that all out."

Officials are being criticized by people who say that they should have had the shooter arrested the minute he shot the President. A resident of Rufus County, said that the FCIS is taking too long to find the perpetrator of this terroristic act.

"President Laylin should never have been shot, and the fact it is taking this long to find the illegal who shot our President," said an angered Laylin supporter. "How was an Spaniard allowed access to OUR president. It doesn't make since. If I catch that f*ck*r, I am going to k*ll him. Enough is enough. Any illegals that come over here should be shot. America is facing the same problem, and Trump is on the way. Jesstopia is my home and President Jay Laylin is our leader. We should call to arms to take back our country."

Officials in the Presidential Protective Service are scrambling to ramp up security measures for the President and Vice President Cole Bindle, but now are facing increasing scrutiny for not reviewing security measures for speaking events. They are also criticized for the role the Director played int his entire incident.

President Laylin is continuing to recover and remains in a comma as doctors work to repair the damage to his face. They say that he is not out of the woods and most likely won't be for a few months. The President was shot in the face while attending a speaking event during a United Steel Workers Union annual meeting, when a gunman approached him, and fired 5 shots, with 4 of the 5 shots striking the president in the face.

"We believe he will be able to make a full recovery, but it will take time. From the injuries he sustained, we will be able to repair his left cheek, and the muscles in his face. We are thankful the bullet missed his optic nerve," said a doctor operating on the President. "There is a lot of work that still needs to be done to get him back to 100%, but he is making great progress."

RUFUS - On January 12, 2025, a wannabe assassin attempted to take the life of President Jay Laylin, when he shot the president in the face and ran. The President, according to witnesses, collapsed to the ground, blood pouring out of his mouth and nose, as the assassin ran. The man has yet to be identified, but officials say he is a Mexican and is likely here on a travelers visa. Jesstopians across the country are showing their support for the president online, vowing to find and punish the man responsible.

NEWS 28 - President Jay Laylin's staff are cancelling dozens of state visits and meetings with world leaders following Sunday's shooting involving President Jay Laylin. The president had 12 meetings scheduled for the next three months, with all but one be cancelled.

The meetings were scheduled to take place in the first weeks of February and into March. The meetings were set to take place as a way to build further relations with the nations, and working to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. The meetings were scheduled to be the first in-person meetings and state visits of these leaders of Jay Laylin's presidency. Nationalist House officials are saying that they are working to reschedule these meetings, but the uncertainty of President Laylin's condition is making these efforts more difficult.

"We are currently working to reschedule these important meetings, but some of them require the president, and right now his health condition is making rescheduling these meetings more difficult," said Nationalist House Press Secretary Nancy Yates. "We want to respect these leader's time, while ensuring President Laylin is up for the job. US President Donald Trump said that he would rather Laylin focus on recovering than his meeting with Trump. Putin said he was waiting to hear back from the Nationalist House, and will continue to wait until a new date is selected for their meetings.

"It is very important that President Jay Laylin recovers from what can only be described as a terrorist attack," said President-Elect Donald Trump. "His health is the most important thing he can focus on and should focus on. There will be other times to meet face to face, I pray he recovers quickly and fully."

The State of the Union Address is held every year either in January or February, depending on whether a president is in his first year of his presidency or if he is continuing his term. But after the recent events of the Laylin shooting, Congress has delayed the SOTU indefinitely, but says one will be held this year.

Congressional leaders are preparing to hold their own internal investigations, subpoenaing Presidential Protective Service agents, and leadership, to understand how the President was able to be shot in the first place. But the SOTU, which was scheduled for February 15, 2025, is now likely to happen in later 2025 or at the end of 2025. But no actual confirmation of the date that has been selected has been confirmed.

"In response to the horrific shooting of President Jay Laylin on Sunday morning, we are hereby delaying the 2025 State Of The Union Address until further notice," said House Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington. "We need to give the president time to heal, and the State Of The Union Address should be the last thing the President should be worrying about right now. We will work with the Nationalist House, to schedule the new State Of The Union at a more convenient time for the President."

Other officials are calling for it to be cancelled altogether and be held with the 2026 State Of The Union Address. Nationalists are calling for it to be completely cancelled. The Jesstopian Constitution requires that "the president, from time to time, shall update a joint session of Congress on the State of the Union."

The president was scheduled to deliver remarks on Feb. 15, but following the shooting, that date became unfeasible as the President now remains in a coma. Further, it is seeking answers to how a potential non-Jesstopian citizen was able to slip through the PPS and access the President and shoot him in the face, which has garnered global attention and has caused great anger by Republicans and Nationalists alike.

Congressional leaders announced yesterday, that they were planning on a full scale investigation but hadn't confirmed if they would follow through with the investigation. Nationalists and Republicans expressed outrage that the President was shot, and a man was able to gain direct access to the President. Officials expected to testify during Congressional hearings include PPS officials, FCIS investigators, PPS agents and other officials of the New Shire State Police.

House officials say they are not happy that the shooting took place in the first place, and it has been revealed that investigators say their was a lack of following the security protocol. FCIS director Barry Wilkenson says that the PPS did not follow the correct procedure for securing the event, and that was a major factor that contributed to the shooting of the president.

Senate officials are also looking for answers as to why a foreign national was allowed to get 50 ft from the president with a firearm, unnoticed and how the same person was able to evade immediate capture. Senators from both parties have expressed extreme anger over the shooting calling it a "disappointing and preventable lack of security."

PPS director Gerald McFarland is expected to be publicly reamed for his role in the President's shooting and will be likely heavily criticized for his agents not following the correct security protocol. It doesn't seem likely that the House or Senate will take it easy on him.

As for who the man is, only surveillance cameras shows the man’s half covered face and are seeking the public’s help in identifying him.

”Currently we believe that the shooter who was successfully able to sneak into a secure area was from Mexico,” said FCIS Barry Wilkenson. “What is really concerning to me is how the PPS didn’t notice nor catch the shooter before it happened. We are still looking for the shooter, and we are set to begin question PPS agents who were responsible for his security. There’s more evidence to collect but we are working around the clock to ensure that we find the person who shot our President.”

The agency did say however that video surveillance cameras shows a young man between the ages of 18-25, and appears to be of Mexican descent. The FCIS says that they are looking for additional DNA evidence to find more information on the suspect. The Presidential Protective Service says they were not made aware of any threats to the President therefore were not planning for any attack that could potentially tally happen besides the security procedures they had in place.

NEW SHIRE TIMES - Investigators are now investigating a shooting that left President Jay Laylin shot in the face. The shooting happened a little before 10:00 AM, just prior to him taking stage at steel workers union event, where he was set to deliver updates on his plans to open more mines for precious metals, and the creation of 2,000 additional steel workers jobs. He was rushed to the hospital where he now remains in unknown condition.

The President's staff announced that the president had been struck while he was preparing for a speech in Towton County. They said that they are not aware of his president's current condition, but they say when an update can be provided they will do so.

"The president was shot in the face a little after 10 AM, and as of now we are not sure what his condition is and how bad the shot to the face actually is," said Nationalist House Press Secretary. "We are obviously very worried about the health of the President and as of right now can't provide any additional updates. But as soon as we learn more, we will provide an update to you all."

New Shire State Police Commissioner Lee Adams issued a prayer to the president and his family, saying he is now facing the greatest challenge of his life. He said that he was committed to finding the animal that tried to take the life of the President.

"We are praying hard for the president today as he fights for his life after being shot in the face. We hope God takes him into his arms, heals the injuries he faces and allows him to return to his duty as the rightful President of the United States Of Jesstopia," said Commissioner Lee Adams. "We will not stop. We will not leave any stone upturned, to find the animal who shot our nation's president. We are also looking into how the Presidential Protective Service failed to prevent this incident, which slightly mirrors what happened to then Presidential Candidate Donald Trump in July. We we are working with federal officials to ensure that a thorough and substantial investigation is conducted. We pray for the Laylin family at this time and the President at this time."

FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson said that he and his team have already launched the investigation into what happened and said that he is hopeful they can quickly catch the man who shot the president before he was scheduled to speak in Towton County, New Shire to steel workers.

"This incident was a result of a breakdown in security, and we are now working to find where the breakdown actually happened," said FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the president, and we will not stop working until we understand what happened and who is responsible for this shooting. A president was just shot in the face, and we must find out why it happened and how we can prevent this type of incident from occurring again. We will use all of our resources to find out what happened. We know there will be more questions than answers we can provide, so we are working very quickly to get the answers that Jesstopians will want to know."

Presidential Protective Service director Gerald McFarland has issued his own statement regarding the president's shooting, and said that he is angered by the incident.

"It should never have happened," said PPS Director Gerald McFarland. "This incident serves as a reminder the consistently training, and adapting to changing times is so important to the preservation of our great institute, and the protection of our President. We are unbelievably rocked by this shooting and I will do everything in my power as Director of this agency to find out what exactly happened, and will work to find the answers the Jesstopian people want and deserve. I pray that President Laylin recovers quickly and I am hopeful that we can get to the bottom of this shooting. Again, it should never have happened and we need to know why it happened. Right now, I am very angry that something like this was allowed to happen."

The President is set to be transferred to the Nationalist House Medical center, where he will receive continued treatment for his injuries. His condition is still being withheld, but it seems like he was severely injured when the bullet struck the side of his face. No further information has been provide at this time.

Congressional leaders across the House and Senate weighed in on the shooting with bipartisan anger being expressed at the shooting of the President. The leaders of the House and Senate also released statements.

"I am shocked and angered that a gunman was able to gain access to the president, let alone pull the trigger of the gun that shot the president in the face," said Senator Joey Rigg. "It is my hope that we as the Senate investigate this shooting completely, separate of the investigations by the PPS and the FCIS. We will conduct our own Senate Judiciary Committee investigation."

Senate leadership issued its own joint statement with Senate Majority and Minority leader Larry Cofelt and Harry Rodham issuing the statement together.

"It is my hope that we as the Senate investigate this shooting completely, separate of the investigations by the PPS and the FCIS. We will conduct our own Senate Judiciary Committee investigation."

Senate leadership issued its own joint statement with Senate Majority and Minority leader Larry Cofelt and Harry Rodham issuing the statement together.

"This shooting should never have happened and right now, we are rightfully pissed that someone was able to shoot the president in the face," the statement read. "While we are angry that his happened, we are working hard to understand how this happened and what we can do to prevent it from happening again in the future. We pray for the speedy recovery of the President and are hopeful for the swift arrest of the shooter. This investigation will be conducted by our special Senate investigation division who will the submit their preliminary findings to Senate Judiciary Committee. This should never have happened and I am quite upset that it did."

Representative Gretchen LeWolf said that she was shocked and angered by the shooting calling it the worst crime against the United States Of Jesstopia. She says that she hopes the shooter faces the full consequences and penalties under the law.

“While I have had a rocky political relationship with the president, since he took office, my hope is that he makes a quick and complete recovery, and I pray that he survives this incident,” said Representative LeWolf. “There is no reason a gunman should have direct access to the president and thank our law enforcement for working to save his life. We know that there are a lot of questions we will have for the Presidential Protective Service and the Federal Crimes Investigation Service during our investigation into this heinous and anti-Jesstopian act. I pray for the president and his family during this difficult time.”

Representative Braden Harris said he was angry that a gunman had access to President Jay Laylin and issued that the Senate would work in a bipartisan manner to insure that the shooter was identified and faced the full force of all application charges. He said that he will work to find out what happened.

“This is a disgraceful act. Attacking our country's leader, shooting him in the face, leaving him there to die,” said Representative Braden Harris. “We must come together as a country, not be divided. There is so much that unites us than divides us and this is one of those situations where we need to understand where a security lapse has happened, and how to close and fix that lapse. My thoughts and prayers go out to the president, his family and I wish him a quick and full recovery.”

House Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington said that he was launching a House investigation into the shooting and how a gunman was able to get direct access to the president with a firearm.

“I am unbelievably perturbed by the fact that an armed man was able to find, get access to and shoot the president of the United States Of Jesstopia without anyone stopping him,” said an angered Matthew Carrington. “This shooting should never have happened and I want to know why it did. There is a lot of work we are going to be doing in the coming weeks to months and the work we will need to complete to find the reason this incident happened.”

“I pray for the health and continued recovery of President Jay Laylin and my hope is that we are able to find the cause of this shooting, and punish the individual responsible,” said Vice President Cole Bindle who will serve as the acting President until Laylin returns. “This shooting is a reminder to the constant threats against Jesstopian government officials and we must do everything in our power to stop it from happening.”

Former President John McCallum issued the following statement following the shooting. He expressed his prays to Laylin and the Laylin family.

“For a president to be shot, several things need to happen. First is a lack of security,” said former President John McCallum. “Second, there needs to be a lack of security processes in place. Lastly, the lack of continued oversight of the venue. My prayers go out to the Laylin family as well as President as he continues to fight for his life. We need to find out what happened here and it makes me angry that it was allowed to happen.”

RUFUS - President Jay Laylin has been rushed to the hospital after a bullet struck him in the face a little after 10 this morning. Presidential Protective Service agents rushed to the President's aid. The agents and state, county and local officials are working to find the suspects. The president has been rushed to the hospital where his condition remains unknown. The Federal Crimes Investigation Service says it will not stop until it finds the shooter.

The President's staff announced that the president had been struck while he was preparing for a speech in Towton County. They said that they are not aware of his president's current condition, but they say when an update can be provided they will do so.

"The president was shot in the face a little after 10 AM, and as of now we are not sure what his condition is and how bad the shot to the face actually is," said Nationalist House Press Secretary Nancy Yates. "We are obviously very worried about the health of the President and as of right now can't provide any additional updates. But as soon as we learn more, we will provide an update to you all."

New Shire State Police Commissioner Lee Adams issued a prayer to the president and his family, saying he is now facing the greatest challenge of his life. He said that he was committed to finding the animal that tried to take the life of the President.

"We are praying hard for the president today as he fights for his life after being shot in the face. We hope God takes him into his arms, heals the injuries he faces and allows him to return to his duty as the rightful President of the United States Of Jesstopia," said Commissioner Lee Adams. "We will not stop. We will not leave any stone upturned, to find the animal who shot our nation's president. We are also looking into how the Presidential Protective Service failed to prevent this incident, which slightly mirrors what happened to then Presidential Candidate Donald Trump in July. We we are working with federal officials to ensure that a thorough and substantial investigation is conducted. We pray for the Laylin family at this time and the President at this time."

FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson said that he and his team have already launched the investigation into what happened and said that he is hopeful they can quickly catch the man who shot the president before he was scheduled to speak in Towton County, New Shire to steel workers.

"This incident was a result of a breakdown in security, and we are now working to find where the breakdown actually happened," said FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the president, and we will not stop working until we understand what happened and who is responsible for this shooting. A president was just shot in the face, and we must find out why it happened and how we can prevent this type of incident from occurring again. We will use all of our resources to find out what happened. We know there will be more questions than answers we can provide, so we are working very quickly to get the answers that Jesstopians will want to know."

Presidential Protective Service director Gerald McFarland has issued his own statement regarding the president's shooting, and said that he is angered by the incident.

"It should never have happened," said PPS Director Gerald McFarland. "This incident serves as a reminder the consistently training, and adapting to changing times is so important to the preservation of our great institute, and the protection of our President. We are unbelievably rocked by this shooting and I will do everything in my power as Director of this agency to find out what exactly happened, and will work to find the answers the Jesstopian people want and deserve. I pray that President Laylin recovers quickly and I am hopeful that we can get to the bottom of this shooting. Again, it should never have happened and we need to know why it happened. Right now, I am very angry that something like this was allowed to happen."

The President is set to be transferred to the Nationalist House Medical center, where he will receive continued treatment for his injuries. His condition is still being withheld, but it seems like he was severely injured when the bullet struck the side of his face. No further information has been provide at this time.

Congressional leaders across the House and Senate weighed in on the shooting with bipartisan anger being expressed at the shooting of the President. The leaders of the House and Senate also released statements.

"I am shocked and angered that a gunman was able to gain access to the president, let alone pull the trigger of the gun that shot the president in the face," said Senator Joey Rigg. NEWS 28 - The son of the late former Governor Kirk Paul, Alex Paul was released from the hospital following his suicide attempt on January 7, as his psychiatrist and doctors say he will need to take counseling and medications for his depression and will need to regularly attend counseling until next year. Alex Paul gave permission for his psychiatrist to release information about him.

Alex's psychiatrist said that it was only temporary and the suicide attempt was only to ease the pain of losing the people closest to him. With the right treatment, his doctors and counselor say he will be on the track to living a healthy and productive life.

After his suicide became national, Alex Paul announced that he would not be returning to Roxwood, and would instead head to Harvard, where he will attend law school there. He was accepted last week with a scholarship to Harvard Law School. Roxwood said he'd be welcome back anytime.

"He really struggled with the death of his brother, and then when his dad died in June," said Rachel Hernandez MD, and PsyD. "If he had been any other circumstance, it is very likely that he wouldn't have attempted to take his own life. He is a smart kid, he was just going through a rough part of his life."

ALDEN - Alex Paul, son of the late Kirk Paul, and 19th Governor Of Mesa, has been released from the hospital following observation and the all-clear that he is not a risk to himself. The hospital did not respond to our request for comment, but with permission of Alex and the Paul family, his psychiatrist did reveal that the reason for his momentary psychosis was form depression from the deaths of not only his father, but his brother Matt in 2023.
