NEWS 28 - House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf is safe following shots being fired near her home. Law enforcement officials from the New Shire State Police quickly responded to the Speaker's neighborhood following several calls to police. New Shire State Police troopers were seen flooding the neighborhood arriving fast with lights and sirens, according to amateur footage.

The agency did say that they are conducting a full scale investigation and will work alongside the Federal Crimes Investigation Service due to the shooting involving a federal government official. New Shire State Police officials say that the shooting doesn't appear to be related to an assassination attempt or any violent crime against any person, but they say they will continue to investigate this shooting.

"We don't believe the shooting to be an attempt to harm the House Speaker," said New Shire State Police Commissioner Lee Adams. "But we can't rule everything out at this point and we will work with the FCIS to determine who the shooter was, what their motive was and if there is any imminent threat to her life."

FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson has said that he believes this to be a random shooting, similar to the one in the neighborhood of former President John McCallum.

"I am not concerned about the safety of Speaker LeWolf at this time," said FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson. "There doesn't appear to be bad intention behind the shots being fired. We are looking at all avenues, so like Commissioner Adams said, we can't rule it out all together at this time. We will file our initial findings in our initial report."

Speaker LeWolf has beefed up her security following the shooting, but says she feels just as safe as before. She told reporters that she is safe and doesn't feel unsafe in her home.

"After the shooting, New Shire State troopers came to my door to make sure I was okay," said Speaker Gretchen LeWolf. "I told them I was good, and was safe. The announcement is being questioned, as her money laundering trial is set to enter its second week on Monday. Many think that she is in serious trouble, and that the court has found severely clear evidence that she used her Finance company to launder money, and that the announcement comes before she is set to receive any type of formal sentence.

"I am honestly not surprised at all that she announced she wouldn't seek reelection," said Representative Braden Harris. "Her abrupt announcement of her departure from the Speaker's chair really should have been a sign that trouble was brewing in court. She had fought calls to resign for the better part of a few weeks, and survived two motions to vacate. So her career in the Speaker's office looked pretty good until she announced she was stepping down on December 14."

House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf issued the following statement on the Speaker's website, moments ago. The statement eludes to her departure from Congress at the end of her current term.

"Today I have made the hardest decision of my career, and one I hope no other member will never have to make again. But effective today, December 21, 2024, I will suspend my reelection campaign as the Representative for New Shire's 1st District," Speaker Gretchen LeWolf's statement said. "I am dropping out of this race and will leave Congress at the end of my term in 2025. I hope and pray that whoever is my successor, can represent this great Congressional district. It has been a busy couple of weeks and I will ensure that this district is left in good hands. I feel that my legal troubles are causing too many problems for not only the chair of House Speaker but for my chair in the House. I have already submitted by order of withdrawal to the Federal Board Of Elections and my name will be removed from the ballots following their hearing."

There is still no word as to whether she has been found liable for any of the charges, and the courts have yet to hear evidence from the defense, related to her business. It is likely that those results won't come out until after the new year and even then, it isn't likely we'll see any charges be listed off until next year. Investigations are still ongoing, and Speaker LeWolf will still face her Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions related to the allegations leveled against her.

"Her abrupt announcement of her departure from the Speaker's chair really should have been a sign that trouble was brewing in court. She had fought calls to resign for the better part of a few weeks, and survived two motions to vacate. So her career in the Speaker's office looked pretty good until she announced she was stepping down on December 14."

House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf issued the following statement on the Speaker's website, moments ago. The statement eludes to her departure from Congress at the end of her current term.

"Today I have made the hardest decision of my career, and one I hope no other member will never have to make again. But effective today, December 21, 2024, I will suspend my reelection campaign as the Representative for New Shire's 1st District," Speaker Gretchen LeWolf's statement said. "I am dropping out of this race and will leave Congress at the end of my term in 2025. I hope and pray that whoever is my successor, can represent this great Congressional district. It has been a busy couple of weeks and I will ensure that this district is left in good hands. I feel that my legal troubles are causing too many problems for not only the chair of House Speaker but for my chair in the House. I have already submitted by order of withdrawal to the Federal Board Of Elections and my name will be removed from the ballots following their hearing."

There is still no word as to whether she has been found liable for any of the charges, and the courts have yet to hear evidence from the defense, related to her business. It is likely that those results won't come out until after the new year and even then, it isn't likely we'll see any charges be listed off until next year. Investigations are still ongoing, and Speaker LeWolf will still face her Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions related to the allegations leveled against her.

NEWS 28 - Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington is set to take on the role as Speaker Pro Tempore on January 5, 2025, and will succeed Gretchen LeWolf as the top brass in the House, before the 2025 Speaker Election. Additionally, he has already reportedly begun his staff members to serve as he leads the House is a very limited capacity.

But as he prepares to leave his role as Deputy Speaker to Speaker Pro Tempore, he will be required to select his Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore, a role that was established in Article 257, clause 25 of the Jesstopian Constitution. He is likely to select one of his closest allies for the role of Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore. But with many people's names on the shortlist, he is set to announce his pick for his Deputy later this week. He is now in a transitional position, where he is getting ready to take over for Speaker LeWolf starting on January 5, 2025.

There could be a special vote to allow him to become the Speaker of the House, but a majority of Republicans would likely not support his speakership."

Carrington has shortlisted several people for the Deputy position. The individuals included in the list are business people, fellow Representatives as well as several local officials. It hasn't been announced who these people are, but it is likely people close to him.

"I haven't made any decision on who would serve as Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore, but that announcement will come sometime later this week," said Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington.
