NEWS 28 - A case has officially been opened against Michael Swenson, the 25 year old who shot up the home of 2024 Presidential candidate. The case has been titled United States Of Jesstopia VS Michael Swensen. The trial will begin on October 21, 2024.
Swenson is accused of attempting to assassinate a major Presidential candidate, which holds a minimum sentence of 25 years behind bars, but with all charges associated with it, could be longer.
Charges that Swenson is facing include Felony Gun Charges, Unauthorized Use Of A Firearm, First Degree Attempted Murder Of A Federal Official, First Degree Attempted Murder Of A Government Official, Felony Drug Possession, Felony Possession Of A Firearm/Rifle.
Swenson was found to be in possession of a controlled substance when MHP and PPS agents took him into custody on September 4, 2024. As a felon, he is not permitted to use or have narcotics, even if those narcotics are prescribed for minor ailments.
He is also facing jail time for his possession of a firearm, which he can not have as he is a convicted felon, due to his gang membership and several felony charges of gang violence.
"We are looking to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. He isn't just one time offender, who made a poor choice," said Marc O'Clark, the prosecutor in the case. "He has an extensive rap-sheet that pertains to gang- and drug possession activities. He isn't a child, he will face big-boy charges."
Swenson's lawyer, or the defense, is looking to have several of the other charges dropped and hopes to enter a plea agreement that will reduce his charges, which experts say the judge will likely deny.
