NEWS 28 - Congressional leaders have announced that the 2025 State Of The Union address scheduled for February 15, 2025, has been cancelled, pending rescheduling at a later date. It comes following the shooting of President Jay Laylin in Towton, New Shire on Sunday morning.

The State of the Union Address is held every year either in January or February, depending on whether a president is in his first year of his presidency or if he is continuing his term. But after the recent events of the Laylin shooting, Congress has delayed the SOTU indefinitely, but says one will be held this year.

Congressional leaders are preparing to hold their own internal investigations, subpoenaing Presidential Protective Service agents, and leadership, to understand how the President was able to be shot in the first place. But the SOTU, which was scheduled for February 15, 2025, is now likely to happen in later 2025 or at the end of 2025. "In response to the horrific shooting of President Jay Laylin on Sunday morning, we are hereby delaying the 2025 State Of The Union Address until further notice," said House Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington. "We need to give the president time to heal, and the State Of The Union Address should be the last thing the President should be worrying about right now. We will work with the Nationalist House, to schedule the new State Of The Union at a more convenient time for the President."

NEWS 28 - The Senate has passed the 2024 Inflation Reduction Act, and is now being prepared to be sent to the president where he will sign the act into law, therefore ensuring that the inflation is able to be directly addressed and artificially reduced as more programs, contained within the bill are activated.

"I knew this act would pass but I didn't realize how strongly it would have been supported," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Rodham. "We appreciate the cooperation between House and Senate Nationalists with Republicans. We are doing something for the better of our country and that means ensuring the President's economic policy is pushed through. We are working for the people of our great country."

Several members of the Senate Republican caucus say they are pleased, including embattled Senator Joey Rigg, who said that the bill will artificially lower the inflation and make living in the United States Of Jesstopia cheaper and better.

"This act will work to artificially lower the crippling inflation that has been exacerbated by former President John McCallum's economic policies that failed the people of this country," said Senator Joey Rigg. "We must continue to support and push Jay Laylin's agenda because it is ensuring a strong Jesstopia for all, while ensuring we prosper as a nation on the global scale."

The House Wednesday approved the bill in a vote of 299 to 212, with 85 Nationalists voting to support the bill. The bill was then sent to the House Transfer Committee who pushed the bill to the Senate Transfer Committee where leaders of the Senate approved the bill for a vote today.

The Senate chamber isn't it session, so we weren't able to get a comment as to when we can expect to hear the results of the vote. On Thursday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Larry Cofelt and Senate Minority Leader Harry Rodham announced that they would hold the vote today, but announced that they is a chance the vote gets delayed. Further, Senate control is held by the Nationalist Party, therefore it could be a long drawn out process before the Senates approves the act.

"We have a lot of work coming up tomorrow as we prepare to vote on the 2024 Inflation Reduction Act," said Majority Leader Larry Cofelt during a press conference yesterday. "The Senate must decisively choose whether the act passes or not, and we know that the House decisively voted for the act, and we are looking at that for guidance."

House Senate Minority Leader Harry Rodham said that the vote is essential to the continuing decline of the inflation, that has slowly crept its way down as President Laylin continues signing executive orders to push forward with cutting down the crippling inflation caused by policies of the Diester and McCallum administrations.

"We need this to pass to help with relieving economic strains on the wallets of Jesstopians nationwide," said Minority leader Harry Rodham during an interview on Wednesday. "If we can't get this act to pass Friday, Jesstopians will continue to suffer as they work 2, 3 or more jobs. It's not fair and we must get this inflation down. My hope is the Nationalists will put forward a bi-partisan effort to get this act passed like the House Nationalists did."

The vote must win majority support which means of the 80 senators, at least 41 Senators must support the bill and right now, it seems like all Republicans will support the bill, which gets them to 25 votes. They will need 16 Nationalists for it to pass.

NEWS 28 - Former Speaker Of The House, Gretchen LeWolf announced early this morning that she was asking Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington to call a vote on an impeachment inquiry that now has received harsh criticism from her own party and Republicans.

In a brief submitted to the House leadership, including her former Deputy, Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington, she accuses the president of inciting mass targeting of illegals by Jesstopians, and says that his rhetoric has led to the injury of over 25,000 illegal immigrants. She says that by spewing hate filled rhetoric, he contributed to thousands of illegals being terrorized and harmed.

"I am asking that an impeachment inquiry be started into President Jay Laylin, for leading in, spewing hate-filled rhetoric that has led the injury of at least 25,000 illegal immigrant who were sent back to their countries of origins," said Representative Gretchen LeWolf. "I ask Speaker Pro Temp, to move for a floor vote on an impeachment inquiry of President Jay Laylin, who led to mass targeting of illegals, leading to violent attacks on these individuals."

When asked about her attempts at an impeachment inquiry, Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington said that it was her right to push for a vote, and that he would leave it up to House members, and said he doesn't support the impeachment, and says plenty of other members of the House don't support it either.

"While I personally don't agree with the attempts to impeach the President, she has every right to bring the motion to the floor, as a member of the House," said Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington. "I believe that as Speaker Pro Tempore, it is my duty to ensure all members of the House are heard, and not just those I agree with. If she brings the inquiry to the House floor and members agree to voting on it, I will support their decision as my duty entails. Many Nationalists won't support the impeachment but again, it is up to house members."

Representatives including Braden Harris, Gina Horschel, Senate Majority Leader Larry Cofelt and Pauline Brighton announced that they would vote against impeachment after learning of LeWolf's plans to seek an impeachment inquiry against the President.

"I believe this "impeachment inquiry" is very much a retaliatory act," said Representative Braden Harris. "She has made very clear statements that she would fight his administration in every way possible, and has a strong discontent for the President. She knows that this impeachment attempt will go no where, and I am ready to stand up against it."

Representative Gina Horschel defended President Laylin against LeWolf claiming that she was just in it for retaliation for being forced to step down as Speaker for her anti-Laylin rhetoric.

"The President is less than 2 month into his presidency and he has introduced legislation that I don't necessarily agree with, but as President is his prerogative," said Horschel. "But LeWolf's attempt to 'get even' by means of impeachment don't hold any bearing or weight. She is just angered at the fact that she was forced to step down, because of the choice she made to knowingly and willingly prevent important border security legislation that would protect the national interest of Jesstopia and the people that live here. I will not support the impeachment effort. He's done absolutely nothing to warrant the process even being brought up."

Senate Majority Leader Larry Cofelt, an outspoke critic of President Laylin even called the move a shame, and harmful to the effective governance of Jesstopia.

"I am extremely disappointed in Representative Gretchen LeWolf's decision to move for an impeachment inquiry," said Leader Larry Cofelt. "She is effectively using the power she has to get retaliation against the President. I think it is a miscarriage of justice and power, and I will see to it that this impeachment inquiry is rejected. I call on my House leadership colleagues to do the same. It is a shame and harmful to the effective governance of our great land."

The House Nationalist caucus will likely not vote for impeachment until next week, as they have a full schedule ahead of them this week with votes scheduled every day until Sunday. It is heavily speculated that the impeachment inquiry vote will fail.

Senators and Representatives return to work for the opening of the 84th Congress. They are set to kick off another year of legislating.

NEWS 28 - House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf has opened the 84th Congress, her last time opening Congress as the Speaker Of The House. She opened Congress in a joint meeting of the House and Senate. LeWolf who is set to step down as Speaker on January 5, thanked her colleagues for the opportunity to serve as the Speaker of the House.

Speaker LeWolf said that she would put several proposals up for a vote before she departs the speaker chair on January 5, and said that she would also allow Representatives to vote on proposals that she placed on the backburner before the 83rd Congress ended last month.

"I will put several proposals up for a vote, related to the proposals by President Jay Laylin that we were unable to vote on before the end of the previous Congress," said Speaker Gretchen LeWolf. "We have a lot of transitional work to do before I step down as Speaker on January 5, and I want to ensure that we have everything in order, before that transition happens. I will also continue fighting any major proposals by the President that aim to deport immigrants who are seeking asylum here. My last stand is to protect the vulnerable population."

Representatives are preparing for Deputy Speaker Matthew Carrington to take over as the Speaker Pro Tempore until September, when the House and Speaker elections take place. With the upcoming session, Speaker LeWolf is still facing a Senate Judiciary investigation related to her money laundering criminal trial in Rufus County Federal Court.

"The Speaker's time in office is coming to an end, so she is making the final push to reject any form of legislations or funding for border security, and that is really disgraceful," said Representative Allen Rupert. "She continues to promote rejecting any bill proposal by the President and my hope is that history will remember her as a coward in the House's highest office."

Congress has a long slate of items it needs to take care of in this Congress, but it is likely that the day that Carrington becomes Speaker Pro Tempore, that most of what the president is pushing will be voted on immediately.

"As I said, I will work for the Jesstopian people and not the interest of my own interests," said Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington. "I will put all proposals by the President up for a vote and won't back bench any proposal I don't agree with. The Speaker's job was to ensure that all votes were held in a timely and effective manner and she has failed as Speaker. We are working for the people that put us in Congress, and we owe it to them to be an effective and productive governing body. I look forward to a very productive 84th Congress and we hope to get legislation moving through both chambers of Congress and onto the President's desk."

Congress recessed for winter on December 15, 2024, and ended at its lowest point, with Speaker LeWolf being charged with money laundering. Then she ended up announcing she was stepping down as Speaker, later announcing that she would not be seeking reelection to her seat in the House. Growing backlash against the speaker began mounting when she announced that she would fight the Laylin administration every step of the way on border security and immigration reform.

Speaker LeWolf said that she would put several proposals up for a vote before she departs the speaker chair on January 5, and said that she would also allow Representatives to vote on proposals that she placed on the backburner before the 83rd Congress ended last month.

"I will put several proposals up for a vote, related to the proposals by President Jay Laylin that we were unable to vote on before the end of the previous Congress," said Speaker Gretchen LeWolf. "We have a lot of transitional work to do before I step down as Speaker on January 5, and I want to ensure that we have everything in order, before that transition happens. I will also continue fighting any major proposals by the President that aim to deport immigrants who are seeking asylum here. My last stand is to protect the vulnerable population."

Representatives are preparing for Deputy Speaker Matthew Carrington to take over as the Speaker Pro Tempore until September, when the House and Speaker elections take place. With the upcoming session, Speaker LeWolf is still facing a Senate Judiciary investigation related to her money laundering criminal trial in Rufus County Federal Court.

"The Speaker's time in office is coming to an end, so she is making the final push to reject any form of legislations or funding for border security, and that is really disgraceful," said Representative Allen Rupert. "She continues to promote rejecting any bill proposal by the President and my hope is that history will remember her as a coward in the House's highest office."

Congress has a long slate of items it needs to take care of in this Congress, but it is likely that the day that Carrington becomes Speaker Pro Tempore, that most of what the president is pushing will be voted on immediately.

NEWS 28 - President Laylin announced a 65 billion dollar spending proposal to take homeless veterans and give them housing. The proposal is in response to a promise the President made to ensure that homeless veterans were taken care of during his term. He vowed to end homelessness of veterans.

The President said it was a personal mission to ensure every single veteran who was homeless in this country, was given a safe and comfortable place to stay. He said that he wouldn't stop fighting hard for the people who fought so hard for our country.

"It is extremely important that we provide housing to our homeless veterans," said President Laylin. "They stood up for this country, from enemies foreign and domestic, risking their lives, families, and secured futures, for the defense of our nation. The previous administration failed to deliver results for veterans and today, over 2.6 million homeless vets line our country's streets. Its unacceptable and something needs to be done about it. I have proposed this funding bill to ensure that we, as a government, give veterans the homes they so desperately need right now."

The President said he hopes that when the 84th Congress resumes, they will quickly pass the funding package to start getting funding to housing organizations and start removing veterans off the streets.

"We owe it to them to provide them with repayment in the form of housing," continued the President. "This funding bill will allow us to provide them with housing, but not only that, access to cleaner living conditions. They sacrificed so much for us, so I feel this is my personal mission to ensure this spending bill gets approved."

The spending package includes free housing, and transportation to and from their medical appointments. It will also provide food allowances so that they can buy food for themselves. With Congress in recess, it isn't likely that they will see the funding go into effect any time soon. But there is hope. Members of the Nationalist Party, including Braden Harris and several others, have vowed to support the efforts of the President fairly, and openly. It is likely that a handful of Nationalists would be open to supporting the bill. But that is yet to be seen and there shouldn't be speculation to the same.

Senate candidate and former New Shire Governor Thomas Cooke launched his official campaign early this morning, seeking to take one of four seats up for grabs during the 2025 Senate elections scheduled for September 5, 2025.

In a brief statement he says he is ready to get back to campaigning, even after his loss during the 2024 Presidential Election. He launched his campaign early yesterday morning. His campaign staff says he is set to deliver a very strong campaign.

Thomas Cooke, who sought election to the Jesstopian presidency in October, said that he was setting his sites on federal office again, as many experts say his presidential loss was from a lack of experience in the federal government. Many experts say that most people in the United States Of Jesstopia are looking for leaders who hold federal government experience, so running for the Senate and if he wins, will give him the much needed government experience needed to show that he would make a good president.

"I am honored to be working towards winning at seat on the Jesstopian Senate, hopeful to preserve the rights of all Jesstopians, and block many of President Jay Laylin's anti-Trans policies," said Thomas Cooke. "If I win, I will work hard for ALL Jesstopians, shooting down harmful policies that target individuals and individual groups. I will work against a violent and hateful rhetoric and ensure that the LGBTQ community is protected. We can not let Republicans take the Senate, or the House, for that matter."
