NEWS 28 - Lynn Rodgers, Governor Of New Shire has already began issuing directives forcing the emergency response teams to prepare pre-flooding programs and evacuation routes, to prepare for the state's October-February flood season.

Governor Lynn Rodgers has issued that all pre-flooding preparations take place starting today, and that includes the New Shire Department Of Emergency Manager, The New Shire State Police Emergency Response Teams and preparing for power, supply and food outages, something that Governor Thomas Cooke was too ill prepared in 2022, leading to a couple of dozen deaths.

But this year, New Shire's governor seems more prepared than most other states who are expecting a strong storm season. While Jesstopia's inland states don't normally get hurricanes often, states like Mesa, and North Lorray(island portion of the state), will have really bad Hurricane seasons which are scheduled for next summer.

We are working to prevent loss of life and hope that our residents take advantage of shelters that are being built around the state."

NEWS 28 - 2024 Presidential nominee Thomas Cooke hosts Nationalist, Republican and unsure voters at a town hall where he was asked dozens of questions about topics important to voters ahead of election day in 10 days. During the questions, Cooke answered some of the most important questions that concern issues that could boost his popularity in polls.

But as voters prepare to hit the polls in 10 days, Thomas Cooke held a town hall where he took questions from voters, who want to know where he stands on specific issues. He was asked a series of questions related to the economy, the Justice system, health care and high inflation, caused solely by the Nationalist Party.

He was asked about how he would address the countries crippling inflation, and he told voters that he would work to reduce the cost of living, gas prices and ensure oil was drilled and distributed here in the United States Of Jesstopia. He expressed the need to drill Jesstopia's oil for Jesstopian cars.

On the economy, he was asked what he would do to create more jobs and bring back jobs from China and overseas. He explained that it was 'essential' that 'China stopped receiving Jesstopian money for products that could be made here at home.'

He responded saying that health care providers would have more options in health plans and would be required to accept at least of 92% of healthcare insurances to remain in business, and said he would mandate a 25% cut in out of pocket costs, working with major health care networks to accomplish this goal.

He was then asked about judicial system and what he would do to stop widespread corruption within the system itself. In one of the strongest responses he has given since starting his campaign bid, he expressed that he would fight corruption by implementing an internal board that reviews the conduct of the agency, but would be a private firm.

He also suggested that Congress would have more oversight of the Justice Department and says that Congress should have the power to investigate fully the Justice Department.

NEWS 28 - Presidential candidate Jay Laylin takes questions from voters during the 2024 Republican Presidential town hall where he was asked about the economy, border security, immigration, foreign relations and domestic policy. His performance as of now, is outshining that of Thomas Cooke, who is giving a dueling town hall at the New Shire Governor's Mansion.

One voter asked Jay Laylin how he would address the border closures that have crippled the travel economy of the country. In a response, Laylin said the following.

"To boost the travel industry in this country after President McCallum's disastrous and unnecessary border closure last year, that has continued to cripple the Jesstopian travel market," said Jay Laylin. "To reverse the effects of this, I will reopen the border from travel in and out of the country. I will incentivise travel companies to lower their rates to get more travelers to visit their sites and purchase travel packages, which will help boost our economy in terms of the travel industry, thus, boosting our overall economy."

When asked about whether he would try to end the war in Israel and Ukraine, he responded with the following.

"I think it is important that we bring the world back to peace, by engaging bad actors, but not-so-directly," explained Laylin. "I think we need to support Ukraine and Israel, but there is not reason for Jesstopia to be physically involved in the war. It brings unneeded and reckless spending and will only escalate things further as we saw under McCallum's leadership."

A voter then asked what he would do to bring gas prices, grocery costs and living costs down. Laylin responded with the following.

"To address the high gas, grocery and living costs, we will introduce bills to artificially and permanently bring down these costs down," explained Laylin. "We will focus on getting oil drilled here in Jesstopia, tariff imported groceries from other countries and introduce Jesstopian-Farm purchase agreements, forcing Jesstopia corporations to buy here at home. This will then lower costs by ensuring all of our produce comes from farms here at home."

NEWS 28 - Thomas Cooke and Jay Laylin, the nominees for President during the 2024 Presidential Election, are set to host their dueling town halls tomorrow morning and both candidates will take questions from voters of both parties as well as unsure voters.

The town halls were part of an agreement to cancel the final presidential debate, which was scheduled for October 9, 2024, before they were cancelled by both campaigns. The town halls will fill in as the final presidential debate that was supposed to take place.

The town halls are scheduled to take place at the same time and will be televised live on all major news networks. The town halls are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM. The town halls will be hosted in Rufus County, New Shire, with Thomas Cooke holding his town hall at the New Shire Governor's mansion, with Jay Laylin holding his event at the State Capital.

NEWS 28 - New Shire has extended its tax filing deadline for New Shirens who will file for the 2024 tax season. However, a stipulation to that extended deadline date is that if your payment doesn't clear before May 1, you could be charged a late penalty, but that is depending on how quickly it clears first. Know you rights and visit the State tax office for further information.

Governor Rodgers extended the tax filing deadline after the Federal government said it wouldn't require a payment to be submitted until July 1, 2024. She also said that the tax filing deadline was extended to give families more time to collect their payments and ensure they are able to afford paying their taxes, so they don't have to choose between feeding their families or paying the Government.

"I have always believed that we must understand the wants, needs and shortcomings of all people, and tax time is a reminder to me of that need," said Governor Rodgers. "That is why I am extending the date in which tax filings are due by one month. Parents should have to choose between feeding their children or paying their taxes. That isn't very fair. My hope is that by extending the tax filing deadline, we are easing the burden on taxpayers."

The tax filing deadline was pushed back from April to May, which means that tax filers need to have a payment submitted to the State tax office by May 1, 2025 at the latest. The tax office encourages tax filers to submit their payments before that date.

RUFUS - New Shire Governor Lynn Rodgers ordered the Secretary Of State to push back the start of tax collection until February 1, 2025, from the previously set January 1. The Federal tax filing deadline was set for July 1, 2025, but the State tax filing deadline was pushed back for another month. In New Shire, the state generally deadlines around April, but this year, tax filers will need to submit their taxes before May 2025.

NEWS 28 - Investigators say that the shooter responsible for killing 20 protesters on September 8, has stopped cooperating with their investigative efforts, but say they no longer need the cooperation as they have plenty of evidence to convict.

Investigators still want to know where the shooter obtained the firearms, as well as what the motive for the shooting was. The shooter is still not giving authorities those answers. But prosecutors say they have enough to charge and push the death penalty on the shooting suspect.

"We've tried to obtain information regarding why the shooter felt it was necessary to kill people who were simply exercising their right to protest," said FCIS Director Sharona Maples. "All we got was a grunt, and eye rolls. Nothing more. We are still trying to understand the shooter's motives, but we do officially have enough to push the death penalty on a federal level. We are seeking other charges but our main focus is to make the death penalty stick. This case is sickening and we will find ways to push the full weight of the law on the shooter. We are not exactly sure the reason for shooting the 20 people, but we are happy to have this individual off the streets."

The shooter has now been identified as a 22 year transgender man, Danielle O'Leary. The shooter is in the process of transitioning from a woman to a man. She will be sent Nexton Federal Prison, where she is awaiting trial.

"We have felony murder charges(20 counts), and felony first degree murder charges(20 counts). We aren't going to go easy on this individual," said Jared Schultz, a federal prosecutor. "I will seek death, and that is the only sentence that should be handed out in this case. 20 people were brutally gunned down."

LGBTQ sympathizers say that the shooting would have been avoided had they been allowed to be supported and accepted. Others say it was reprehensible that 20 lives were lost by a transgender man. A transgender man said that he is disappointed that "such an event could unfold by a member of this community. We already have a hard time getting support and some murderous moron does something like this. My those 20 souls rest in peace, regardless if it is in protest of our community. That's their right."

RUFUS - Governor Lynn Rodgers today signed executive order 045.125 in attempts to force the State legislature to consider 3.7 billion dollars into the North Point, New Shire infrastructure plans that were announced yesterday. The divesting of funding was blocked by the State legislature which called the move inappropriate. Gov. Rodgers responded by proposing the funding package that will fund two new interstates to be built in North Point.

"My original plans were to divest funding from non-essential programs and services, to easily fund the interstate projects," said Gov. Rodgers. "Unfortunately, the State legislature blocked that move in an vote during last night's session. They issued to me that I must propose a funding package to fund the interstate project, and that I can not divest funding to circumvent the state legislature."

She has formally issued a proposal for the 3.7 billion dollars to build six interstate systems. The state legislature is expected to discuss the proposal during its next regularly scheduled session which is next month. North Point officials are also supporting the funding package, as they hope to begin construction in the next 1-2 years.

"We are in full support of funding the project, but we must discuss and negotiate with our fellow representatives and senators to ensure that they are on board with the spending proposal," said New Shire Representative Derrick Leegan. "This is a very large spending package Governor Rodgers is requesting, so it will take time. We will start discussing it during our next session which will be held next month. It may take months to even be voted on. We will get to a conclusion of the proposal at some point, but right now it is too early to tell when it could come to life."

NEWS 28 - The Rufus County International Airport has resumed limited operations after a plane exploded yesterday. The explosion did not cause any injuries and investigators are not releasing any further details at this time.

However operations are resuming slowly and security measures are delaying wait times in security lines. The Jesstopian Aviation Safety Administration is predicting 30-45 minute wait times, which are also delaying flights as passengers wait to get through security and their gates.

Airport officials are still clearing debris from under the aircraft and are expecting the aircraft to be moved to its investigative headquarters in Nox City. The plane has been written off by the airline and investigators will began photographing the wreckage close up.

Airlines are modifying flight times temporarily to ensure that passengers are clearing airport security and international flights are being delayed by a few hours for the next few weeks.

RUFUS - Rufus County International Airport has officially resumed limited flights into and out of Rufus County International Airport after a plane exploded on the gate yesterday afternoon.

The airport is only offering limited service out of the airport with the aircraft that exploded near the cargo hold yesterday still parked on the gate. The airport is still under strict security measures and will remain that way until further notice.

The investigation into the plane explosion is still ongoing and information related to investigation is still being withheld at this point.

Expect longer than normal wait times for security check points and expect larger than normal traffic volume as I-2 is almost demolished and traffic flow has been disrupted.

NEWS 28 - Rufus County International Airport and G-Airlines are currently working to uncover the cause of an airliner explosion that took place at the airport this afternoon. Business at the airport and all flights into and out of the airport were stopped as investigators work to determine the cause of the explosion.

"As of right now, it is too early to release any information about the incident," said Rodger Laughlin, Rufus County International's director. "The flight that was affected by the explosion was G-Airlines Flight 945 with service to Los Angeles International Airport. The aircraft belongs to Arrow Airlines Co, with the aircraft being leased out by the competitor airlines."

The Jesstopian Aviation Safety Administration has released several statements regarding the incident. The statements have been issued by Joe Rouge, the lead investigator of the incident and several other federal officials.

"The explosion today is a reminder that we can never be too careful," said Joe Rouge. "While we seek answers, we don't know what has happened as of now, other than an explosion occurred on the G-Airlines aircraft. We can however confirm, that it was not terroristic in nature, and that we are speaking with the ground handling crew that was loading the aircraft."

The investigation is expected to take several months to complete and investigators are looking at ways to prevent the explosion as they seek to find the cause.

RUFUS - The Rufus County International Airport is now cancelling all flights out of the airport following an aircraft explosion that occurred a little after 6:00 PM. The aircraft in question is currently being swept over by evidence collectors of the Jesstopian Aviation Safety Administration. Airport officials say that the airlines that had passengers expected to depart today are being rebooked on later flights, or are working with other airports to ensure flight plans can continue.

"As of right now, it is too early to release any information about the incident," said Rodger Laughlin, Rufus County International's director. "The flight that was affected by the explosion was G-Airlines Flight 945 with service to Los Angeles International Airport. The aircraft belongs to Arrow Airlines Co, with the aircraft being leased out by the competitor airlines."

The Jesstopian Aviation Safety Administration has released several statements regarding the incident. The statements have been issued by Joe Rouge, the lead investigator of the incident and several other federal officials.

"The explosion today is a reminder that we can never be too careful," said Joe Rouge. "While we seek answers, we don't know what has happened as of now, other than an explosion occurred on the G-Airlines aircraft. We can however confirm, that it was not terroristic in nature, and that we are speaking with the ground handling crew that was loading the aircraft."

The investigation is expected to take several months to complete and investigators are looking at ways to prevent the explosion as they seek to find the cause.

The Republican party holds its first debate on May 21, 2024, and Laylin is leading both candidates. Lola Evans and Chris Conkland attacked Laylin on his career in the Senate.

JESSTOPIAN NEWS NETWORK - Former Senator Jay Laylin, Lola Evans and former Educator Chris Conkland have begun their first debate, and as of now, things are getting pretty heated. As the critical phase of the 2024 Presidential Election phase gets underway, candidates are ramping up attacks on one another.

Following the withdrawal by Gregory Coor and Collin O'Leary, the three are the only Republicans that remain, seeking the Republican nomination in an effort to head against Nationalist Presidential Nominee Thomas Cooke in August.

Conkland expressed concerns about Laylin's leadership in the Senate and his failure to sign several key bills responsible for border security and immigration enforcement ethics and standards. He called Laylin "tainted with hate for legal immigration and people continue to build this country."

Conkland continued his attacks on Laylin calling him a "failed Senate Minority leader," who only "voted once in a lifetime." Conkland also mentioned his voting history within the Senate and previous racist comments he made regarding one of his former colleagues, the first black women to be elected to Congress.

"Laylin sits here spewing lies to the Jesstopian people, about his accomplishments in the Senate, when in fact, he did nothing," said Conkland. "He voted on 200 bills, out of the 5,500 that were introduced during his 10 years in the Senate. He is a failure who should not control the Nationalist House or government."

Lola Evans joined in on the attacks against Laylin, claiming that he also had allegations of sexual misconduct dropped due to his friendship with the prosecuting attorney, something that was cleared and he was not found to have had a friendship with that prosecutor. He was cleared of the sexual assault and worked on bills aimed at combating the crime.

"If that is all you have to go on, you should just drop out of the race," said Jay Laylin. "This race is about seeing who can make real change, not some high school gossip. Let's get real here. First and foremost, Conkland, you have nothing on me. You're just an educator and you should be smart. Evans, you served as a Senator during two different Senate districts. You voted on 2 bills and the rest of the 8,589 bills you completely refused to sit in for. Don't tell me I didn't vote on anything, because I voted on over 4,952 bills, 1,200 resolutions and over 1,500 articles."

Laylin also issued that his opponents don't possess the experience needed to run the Nationalist House. He says they can't lead and if they were to be put in the Nationalist House, they'd choke. He claims that both candidates also take bribes from foreign officials, and it was proven to be true during an interview where Conkland said that his campaign was subsidized by "unnamed members of an elite team dedicated to pushing democracy."
