NEWS 28 - Former Vice President Richard Banks says that a potential run for the presidency in 2028, is not out of realm of possibility. He says that while he could consider a run, he expressed that it was too early to make a definitive decision.
In a statement released by his office, he expressed that a potential run for the presidency is not out of the realm of reality and would consider it when the time is right. He says that it is still to early to determine the viability of a presidential bid and too early to announce his plans.
"I know a run for the presidency isn't out of the realm of possibility," said former Vice President Richard Banks. "However, it is still too far out from the filing deadline to make that kind of decision. A run for the presidency is tangible, but right now I am not ready to make that call. It could happen, and it could not happen. It's just too early to decide that."
If Banks does decide to run for office in 2028, he would likely face off against Thomas Cooke, who is very likely to see office after his crushing defeat to Jay Laylin during the 2024 Presidential Election. Cooke hasn't made any announcement on whether he would seek another chance at the presidency, but has already launched his campaign for the Jesstopian Senate.
Banks left office relatively unpopular, but could time have done it's job and allowed his absence to bring back new found support from hardline Nationalist, voters. His sexual assault allegations led to his resignation as Vice President, so if he eyes the presidency in 2028, he may have a harder time gaining support. But as he says, it is still to early to see what he does. We could expect a potential announcement in mid-late 2026.
