NEWS 28 - House Speaker Matt Carrington has selected his Deputy following hours of speculation that he would choose former Speaker Braden Harris. In a statement released by the Speaker and in an announcement in the House chamber, Speaker Carrington selected Nolan Burmaster to serve as the Deputy House Speaker. Rep. Burmaster was sworn immediately following his appointment.
"I am pleased to announce that I have selected Representative Nolan Burmaster to serve as the next Deputy Speaker Of The House," said Speaker Carrington. "He will be an integral part of my role as House Speaker and he has what it takes to be the second in command of House proceedings. I look forward to continuing to work with him and the work we will accomplish in the next 8 months."
Representative and former House Speaker Braden Harris said that he was very happy with Nolan Burmaster serving as Deputy Speaker, and said that he was pleased that Carrington now serves as the House Speaker.
"I think its a very exciting day that we have two capable leaders, in charge of the House of the People," said Representative Harris. "We know the challenges we as a nation face, and we must put politics and party aside to work for the common goal of, as it has always, the common defense, and protection of the Jesstopian people, making living more affordable and ensuring that jobs are plentiful. I look forward to this leadership and I know we will be able to accomplish so much more."
