NEWS 28 - Congress is scheduled to host dual Investigations into the shooting of President Jay Laylin on Sunday. Further, it is seeking answers to how a potential non-Jesstopian citizen was able to slip through the PPS and access the President and shoot him in the face, which has garnered global attention and has caused great anger by Republicans and Nationalists alike.
Congressional leaders announced yesterday, that they were planning on a full scale investigation but hadn't confirmed if they would follow through with the investigation. Nationalists and Republicans expressed outrage that the President was shot, and a man was able to gain direct access to the President. Officials expected to testify during Congressional hearings include PPS officials, FCIS investigators, PPS agents and other officials of the New Shire State Police.
House officials say they are not happy that the shooting took place in the first place, and it has been revealed that investigators say their was a lack of following the security protocol. FCIS director Barry Wilkenson says that the PPS did not follow the correct procedure for securing the event, and that was a major factor that contributed to the shooting of the president.
Senate officials are also looking for answers as to why a foreign national was allowed to get 50 ft from the president with a firearm, unnoticed and how the same person was able to evade immediate capture. Senators from both parties have expressed extreme anger over the shooting calling it a "disappointing and preventable lack of security."
PPS director Gerald McFarland is expected to be publicly reamed for his role in the President's shooting and will be likely heavily criticized for his agents not following the correct security protocol. It doesn't seem likely that the House or Senate will take it easy on him.
