NOX - This morning before 10:00 AM, President Laylin was in Towton, New Shire where he was set to deliver remarks related to his precious metal industry job growth and his plans to open more than 2,000 precious metals mining sites across the United States Of Jesstopia, leading to job growth, when he was shot in the face. The president was rushed to the hospital where he remains in unknown condition.
The President's staff announced that the president had been struck while he was preparing for a speech in Towton County. They said that they are not aware of his president's current condition, but they say when an update can be provided they will do so.
"The president was shot in the face a little after 10 AM, and as of now we are not sure what his condition is and how bad the shot to the face actually is," said Nationalist House Press Secretary. "We are obviously very worried about the health of the President and as of right now can't provide any additional updates. But as soon as we learn more, we will provide an update to you all."
New Shire State Police Commissioner Lee Adams issued a prayer to the president and his family, saying he is now facing the greatest challenge of his life. He said that he was committed to finding the animal that tried to take the life of the President.
"We are praying hard for the president today as he fights for his life after being shot in the face. We hope God takes him into his arms, heals the injuries he faces and allows him to return to his duty as the rightful President of the United States Of Jesstopia," said Commissioner Lee Adams. "We will not stop. We will not leave any stone upturned, to find the animal who shot our nation's president. We are also looking into how the Presidential Protective Service failed to prevent this incident, which slightly mirrors what happened to then Presidential Candidate Donald Trump in July. We we are working with federal officials to ensure that a thorough and substantial investigation is conducted. We pray for the Laylin family at this time and the President at this time."
FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson said that he and his team have already launched the investigation into what happened and said that he is hopeful they can quickly catch the man who shot the president before he was scheduled to speak in Towton County, New Shire to steel workers.
"This incident was a result of a breakdown in security, and we are now working to find where the breakdown actually happened," said FCIS Director Barry Wilkenson. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the president, and we will not stop working until we understand what happened and who is responsible for this shooting. A president was just shot in the face, and we must find out why it happened and how we can prevent this type of incident from occurring again. We will use all of our resources to find out what happened. We know there will be more questions than answers we can provide, so we are working very quickly to get the answers that Jesstopians will want to know."
Presidential Protective Service director Gerald McFarland has issued his own statement regarding the president's shooting, and said that he is angered by the incident.
"It should never have happened," said PPS Director Gerald McFarland. "This incident serves as a reminder the consistently training, and adapting to changing times is so important to the preservation of our great institute, and the protection of our President. We are unbelievably rocked by this shooting and I will do everything in my power as Director of this agency to find out what exactly happened, and will work to find the answers the Jesstopian people want and deserve. I pray that President Laylin recovers quickly and I am hopeful that we can get to the bottom of this shooting. Again, it should never have happened and we need to know why it happened. Right now, I am very angry that something like this was allowed to happen."
The President is set to be transferred to the Nationalist House Medical center, where he will receive continued treatment for his injuries. His condition is still being withheld, but it seems like he was severely injured when the bullet struck the side of his face. No further information has been provide at this time.
Congressional leaders across the House and Senate weighed in on the shooting with bipartisan anger being expressed at the shooting of the President. The leaders of the House and Senate also released statements.
"I am shocked and angered that a gunman was able to gain access to the president, let alone pull the trigger of the gun that shot the president in the face," said Senator Joey Rigg. "It is my hope that we as the Senate investigate this shooting completely, separate of the investigations by the PPS and the FCIS. We will conduct our own Senate Judiciary Committee investigation."
Senate leadership issued its own joint statement with Senate Majority and Minority leader Larry Cofelt and Harry Rodham issuing the statement together.
"This shooting should never have happened and right now, we are rightfully pissed that someone was able to shoot the president in the face," the statement read. "While we are angry that his happened, we are working hard to understand how this happened and what we can do to prevent it from happening again in the future. We pray for the speedy recovery of the President and are hopeful for the swift arrest of the shooter. This investigation will be conducted by our special Senate investigation division who will the submit their preliminary findings to Senate Judiciary Committee. This should never have happened and I am quite upset that it did."
Representative Gretchen LeWolf said that she was shocked and angered by the shooting calling it the worst crime against the United States Of Jesstopia. She says that she hopes the shooter faces the full consequences and penalties under the law.
“While I have had a rocky political relationship with the president, since he took office, my hope is that he makes a quick and complete recovery, and I pray that he survives this incident,” said Representative LeWolf. “There is no reason a gunman should have direct access to the president and thank our law enforcement for working to save his life. We know that there are a lot of questions we will have for the Presidential Protective Service and the Federal Crimes Investigation Service during our investigation into this heinous and anti-Jesstopian act. I pray for the president and his family during this difficult time.”
Representative Braden Harris said he was angry that a gunman had access to President Jay Laylin and issued that the Senate would work in a bipartisan manner to insure that the shooter was identified and faced the full force of all application charges. He said that he will work to find out what happened.
“This is a disgraceful act. Attacking our country's leader, shooting him in the face, leaving him there to die,” said Representative Braden Harris. “We must come together as a country, not be divided. There is so much that unites us than divides us and this is one of those situations where we need to understand where a security lapse has happened, and how to close and fix that lapse. My thoughts and prayers go out to the president, his family and I wish him a quick and full recovery.”
House Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington said that he was launching a House investigation into the shooting and how a gunman was able to get direct access to the president with a firearm.
“I am unbelievably perturbed by the fact that an armed man was able to find, get access to and shoot the president of the United States Of Jesstopia without anyone stopping him,” said an angered Matthew Carrington. “This shooting should never have happened and I want to know why it did. There is a lot of work we are going to be doing in the coming weeks to months and the work we will need to complete to find the reason this incident happened.”
“I pray for the health and continued recovery of President Jay Laylin and my hope is that we are able to find the cause of this shooting, and punish the individual responsible,” said Vice President Cole Bindle who will serve as the acting President until Laylin returns. “This shooting is a reminder to the constant threats against Jesstopian government officials and we must do everything in our power to stop it from happening.”
Former President John McCallum issued the following statement following the shooting. He expressed his prays to Laylin and the Laylin family.
“For a president to be shot, several things need to happen. First is a lack of security,” said former President John McCallum. “Second, there needs to be a lack of security processes in place. Lastly, the lack of continued oversight of the venue. My prayers go out to the Laylin family as well as President as he continues to fight for his life. We need to find out what happened here and it makes me angry that it was allowed to happen.”
