NEWS 28 - Former Mesa Governor Kirk Paul's 20 year old son Alex Paul was found in his dorm room unconscious, foaming at the mouth. Police believe he had taken drugs at a recent party, but they haven't been able to confirm that. It is also said that he may have suffering a bout of depression.

Paul, 20, was rushed to Alden Critical Care Medical Center, where he was stabilized. The Paul family has not issued any statement regarding the incident, and is asking for Alex's privacy during his medical care. Police also didn't release any further information about if foul play was involved.

"We are thankful that Alex is alive, and we are going to work through whatever comes next, and ask for our privacy as he recovers," said his mother Alexis Paul. "We will release information when it is the right time for our family. We will not be speaking to the press further at this time."

Others say he seemed very withdrawn from everyday activities including his sports like soccer and football, missing games and practices. Police are looking at a potential suicide by narcotic intoxication attempt. Paul will be held until a psychological evaluation is conducted by psychologists.

ALDEN - Alex Paul, the eldest living child of the late Kirk Paul was rushed to the hospital after authorities say he was found in his college dorm room, with foam in his mouth, and seizure like shaking. Tests later revealed that the 20 year old student had overdosed on his Roxwood Campus Dormitory. Roxwood College Police say that he is likely to have overdosed from weed provided at the party just hours prior to the overdose.

NEWS 28 - Former Mesa Governor Kirk Paul's son Alex Paul, was sentenced to just 80 hours of community service and just one year of AA meetings. The judge overseeing the case, said she aims to look at an individual's "personal life circumstances."

"I look at most cases and try to understand what a person is going through, and look at their personal life circumstances," said Judge Georgina Martin. "I know what you've been through, Alex, the loss of your brother Matt, and last month the loss of you dad. But what you need to understand is that driving under the influence can and will kill someone. In your case, the only casualty in your crash was the car. During their preliminary investigation, MHP investigators believe he attempted to end his life by hitting the ditch at high speeds. Sources say that witnesses saw him turn towards the ditch before they say his "vehicle slowed down significantly before hitting the ditch."

A bystander called the police a little before 9:10 PM. MHP, Alden Police and Alden County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the crash. When they walked up to his window, to make sure he was okay, officers noted the strong odor of alcohol and immediately performed the standard Field Sobriety Test on him.

When he did the BAC breath test, it tested him at 0.16 bac. He was more than twice the regular legal limit and twice over his allowed legal limit due to his age. He is facing charges varying from DUI, Unauthorized operation of motor vehicle while driving impaired by an alcoholic substance. A judge in the Alden County Court system is scheduled to hear his case. Due to the age of Alex, he could face mandatory Alcoholics Anonymous classes , and as he didn't kill or hurt anyone, he may likely receive community service as well.

"This type of event is unacceptable in any circumstance, but the fact that a 19 year old got behind the wheel and drove, is mind boggling to me," said MHP Captain Jerry Woodard. "It is even more shocking that former Governor Kirk Paul's son is the one who was driving. We are investigating this fully and will respond sometime later with the findings of our investigation. We are grateful no one was injured by him."

The Alden County Sheriff's Office says it is taking a different approach to the investigation, saying that the reports that it appeared to be an attempted suicide, will guide their investigation into that direction.

"We have to look at all possible angles, and an attempted suicide really fits what happened last month with his father passing away," said Alden County Sheriff Mark Berry. "This very much could be an attempted suicide, so we want to investigate every possible reason he got behind the wheel drunk."

NEWS 28 - On July 20, 2024, Joseph Cooke and Joshua Adamson will debate for the first time since they were nominated their party's respective nominees. The debates in question will be held in three different segments, and will run between July and September.

Incumbent Joshua Adamson is seeking to be re-elected to his office, hoping to keep Republicans in control of the State well into 2026 and into the future. During the debate he says he will focus on addressing view concerns about the economy and the crime surge that has been observed within the state. Adamson still has a heavy lead in most polls between himself and Joseph Cooke.

"This debate is important to Republicans because we can not allow the Nationalists to come into not only the Governor's office but the state legislature, because they will destroy the very foundations of our state," said Governor Adamson. "The state has been running smoothly under Republican control and we must keep Republicans in power."

Joseph Cooke has also said that Republicans are a danger to the state, working to destroy the rights of LGBTQ Mesians and will continue to push Republican ideology and destroy all Mesians rights to freedom of expression and living the way they want to live.

"Republicans will continue to slowly and forcefully reject LGBTQ ideology and will destroy your rights as LGBTQ Mesians," said Joseph Cooke. "Not only that, he has been ineffective in reducing the State's inflation which has been an ongoing issue since the start of the Paul Administration back in 2021. We can't have another two years with Republicans in charge."

"This debate will be a fiery one, as both candidates seek to grab as much support from the first debate as possible," said Nancy Yates a political analyst from News 28. "Cooke is young seeking the office while Governor Adamson is seeking to keep his job. Both are going to be cutthroat during the debates, more so during the first debate as they attempt to establish that support. It will be a fun watch."

Republicans have gripped control of Mesa for a decade under three different Republican governors. Nationalist law makers say they need to rip that control away from them as they have become "content in lacking on law making."

ALDEN - 2024 Gubernatorial Nominees Governor Joshua Adamson and Joseph Cooke are now slated to face off for the first time on July 20, 2024. The location of the debate is however, not being revealed until July 18, 2024, for safety reasons, in response to Kirk Paul's murder.

The debate will kick off on July 20, as both candidates are introduced on stage. The two agreed to hold three debates, usually only two are held during Gubernatorial elections, as they both feel, gives voters ample time to get to know them. The first debate will focus on crime, the state's inflation, economic policy and criminal justice reform.

NEWS 28 - Former Mesa Governor Kirk Paul will be buried on his family farm tomorrow, even as heavy rains and thunderstorms expected. Paul will be buried next to his wife's empty plot on the family farm. He will be given his final rites, and will also have his casket blessed before it is lowered to its final resting place.

Paul's family is the only ones who will be authorized at the burial, and a heavy security presence is expected as President John McCallum makes his way to pay his respects to the late Governor. He is already in Mesa ahead of the burial service which is slated to kick off at 8:45 AM.

A procession will block major roadways as his body makes its way from the Governor's Mansion, where it is currently being held for protection to his family farm about 25 miles away. The Mesa Highway Patrol will be guarding his body as it makes its way to his final resting place.

The burial service will be lead by Pastor Gorgio DaVollio. Paul was of Christian faith and believed heavily in the rebirth of his soul. He was very into the Churches of Jesus Christ.

ALDEN - Former Mesa Governor Kirk Paul is scheduled to be laid to rest and buried on his family farm in West Alden, later today, and his burial will only be attended by close members of the family, even though it is expected to rain and potentially thunder.

Paul was killed at a private hotel room on June 25, 2024, when a gunman shot Kirk Paul point blank in the chest, striking multiple vital organs. Paul laid in state at the Mesa Governor's Mansion on Sunday, and yesterday was his actually funeral. His burial is expected today around 8:45 AM, where his family will say their final goodbyes.

"Rain is expected in the forecast, with several thunderstorms also expected during the burial service, so it will be an emotional and rainy burial." said one of the funeral attendees.

The service will take place across the road from where Paul Grew up as a child. His final rites will be read and his casket will be blessed, before he is lowered into the ground to his eternal resting place.

Paul died on June 27, 2024, after a lengthy fight for his life, before the Paul family decided to take him off life support. Reports show that he lived a little less than an hour after being taken off life support.

Welch is facing life imprisonment for the death of Paul, a court decided to eliminate the death penalty, in his case, but will still need to hold a trial to determine his sentence.

"Welch's case is more difficult as he killed a government official, and that complicates the charges will have to fight," said Welch's attorney Gina Devou'e. "He will have so many hurdles to get through and we are working to get his charges reduced."

Not much is currently being released on Welch's criminal history, mental health history and other details related to his childhood until the first day of his trial, which is scheduled for August 7, 2024.

"With everything he had gone through with his political career, he never lost sight of what his duties called for and the pride he had in that job."

Governor Lynn Rodgers and Former Governor Thomas Cooke also issued statements regarding his death, some of his heaviest criticizers and heaviest opponents, gave heart warming tributes to the late Governor.

"While we were on the opposite sides of the coin, I can say that as parents, the loss that both Alex and Lisa have been facing are immeasurable," said Governor Lynn Rodgers. "My heart breaks for them as they navigate this tragic loss. From one mom to another, I couldn't imagine the pain Alexis is facing. She is one, trying to comfort her kids, and second she is mourning the love of her life. I give her my heart and my sincerest sympathies."

"His kids and wife are in my prayers as the try to get through his death," said Thomas Cooke. "His loss is extreme and his beautiful children are now dealing with that loss along with their incredibly strong and level headed mother. My hope is that they can get through this tragic loss together and with all the love in their hearts. Linda and I send our thoughts and prayers with his family."

President McCallum gave a heartfelt tribute to the late Governor, someone he has said has been a "pain in his ass." He issued a tribute to Paul's family and focused his attention on his kids.

"The Paul kids have been given nothing but hell these last few years," said President McCallum. "As a dad of many kids, my heart is absolutely devastated for his children and his beautiful wife. His children have been champions, fighters and warriors. Alex, has stepped up and has taken on the role of the man of the house, which for a 19 year old, is such a hard and mature thing to have to do. My heart shatters that he will need to take on that role for his mom and sister, and my heart is devastated for his beautiful daughter Lisa, who only had one year with her dad before his passing. It is a shame, and I expect the murderer, responsible for his death to be sentenced to death."

RUFUS - Flags across the United States Of Jesstopia are being lowered in honor of former Mesa Governor Kirk Paul who died a little after 7:25 PM tonight. Flags at most government buildings, schools, and other government funded facilities are being lowered to recognize Kirk Paul's service to the government. Other officials are signing condolence cards and sending them to the family.

NEWS 28 - Kirk Paul who served as the 19th Governor of Mesa from 2021 until 2023, has died at the age of 42, succumbing to the injuries he sustained during a targeted shooting at his private hotel room on Tuesday morning. Paul was rushed to hospital immediately, before being transferred to Nox City Medical Center, where died around 7:25 PM this evening.

The Paul family was seen with their protection detail walking out of the hospital, visually emotional following their final goodbyes after he passed. Alexis Paul gave an update to how her two kids were handling his death.

"They're doing the best they can with what they've just learned," said Paul. "Kirk was a guiding light for the kids, and now he is no longer here with us, its hard for them to understand that. Alex definitely understands the extent of his death, but Lisa doesn't which makes it 100 times more heartbreaking. We're all doing what we can do to support both of them."

Alexis, lost her eldest son Matt Paul back in October 2022 due to a drunk driver, and was still grieving her son before Kirk was shot. She is expected to retain her security team, courtesy of Governor Joshua Adamson.

"We are beyond saddened by his death and we look forward to the day he gets justice," said Alexis Paul. "He was a fighter, and I know he would be proud of what our family has done to support him during his final days of life. The outpouring of support during this time has been tremendous and I can't thank you all enough."

Paul is entitled to a state funeral as he was a former Governor of Mesa, so it is heavily like that he will receive one. He didn't specify what condition Paul was in and viewers only know the condition of him by reports given to the press by doctors and other members of Paul's medical team.

When asked what his condition was, Adamson responded with "that is not my place to say." Press members asked him about when he plans on visiting again but the governor never gave a definitive answer to that question.

When he arrived back to Alden, he gave a press conference to his press corp and had this to say.

"It was a sad visit, but one I'm glad I got to take," said Governor Adamson. "Being there for a family who needs all of the support that they could need, is what that visit was about. Not to make any statement. My place is being Governor, not giving out the Paul family's business. They can make statements on his condition but that is not for me to do."

His doctors remain hopeful that he will make 360 and start getting better, but say that hope is the only thing they can have now. They say they give him 2 weeks to live and his family thinks longer. His wife Alexis is now facing, in her own words, the hardest decision she will ever have to make.

"It's a difficult spot to be in," said Alexis. "On the one hand, you love him and want him here with you, but on the other hand you know he doesn't want to be connected to a machine for the rest of his life and you don't want him to suffer."

The family has been keeping updates on Paul, who has been at Nox City Medical Center since yesterday afternoon. Doctors are giving him 2 weeks to live but the family is giving him longer. They say he is fighter and will get through this. Alexis, though, is conflicted as she will make the final call on whether or not to take him off life-support.

"Its a never-say-never situation," said the family. "He could pull through and miracles are a real thing. We hope that we get a miracle and he begins to heal. We remain very hopeful during the difficult time."

ALDEN - Doctors say that the only way Paul is being kept alive is by an artificial breathing and heart pump machine. They say the injuries he sustained during yesterday's shooting are fatal. The family says it will make a decision on what to do next, but doctors say that his quality of "life" is not very good at this current junction.

With permission from the family, his doctors say that he will not survive once taken of the machines. They said when he arrived he had agonal breathing and mucus build up was abundant in his lungs. They said that x-rays showed blood splotches on his lungs and heart.

"We are surprised that he was still alive when he got to us," said the doctors of Nox City Medical Center. "He was in rough shape already when he arrived to us and we are keeping hope that he will pull through at this time. This morning he was still using a breathing machine and an artificial pump. The family has expressed to us that he would not want to live using machines."

The family has been keeping updates on Paul, who has been at Nox City Medical Center since yesterday afternoon. Doctors are giving him 2 weeks to live but the family is giving him longer. They say he is fighter and will get through this. Alexis, though, is conflicted as she will make the final call on whether or not to take him off life-support.

"It's a difficult spot to be in," said Alexis. "On the one hand, you love him and want him here with you, but on the other hand you know he doesn't want to be connected to a machine for the rest of his life and you don't want him to suffer."
