NEWS 28 - New Shire Comptroller and former New Shire Lt. Governor Fred Lacker is seeking to defeat incumbent Governor Lynn Rodgers during the 2026 New Shire Gubernatorial Election. He is the first Nationalist gubernatorial candidate that has tried to defeat an incumbent of their own party. He says he will launch his calendar for his campaign stops in a couple of months.

NEWS 28 - New Shire’s Winter Storm Jordan response has been ongoing weeks before the storm made landfall. The state says that at least 15 people whose ages range from 7-25 have been killed. They say hurricanes are in their ways as the rainstorms slam Northern New Shire counties.

The Jesstopian Weather Service says that it expects heavy rainfall to continue well into next week, with the peak of the surging floods expected more or less midweek this week. Schools across Rufus, Samson and Frankfurt have already made extended closure plans, with districts in Peach Tree preparing for a month-long closure if necessary.

“I am sad to have to report that as of now Winter Storm Jordan has claimed the lives of 15 people ranging in ages of 7 and 25,” said Governor Lynn Rodgers during her early morning press conference. “This storm is quickly taking life so it is imperative that you follow state and local advisories and guidance. According to the coroner, many of the victims likely died trying to escape rushing waters but the force of the currents drag them under, and they are unable to escape and drown.

Experts believe and are predicting that over 2.6 billion in damages are expected from Winter Storm Jordan. Emergency evacuations are expected to be ordered in regions of New Shire that are in the storms path but will be touched by the outer perimeter of the storm.

Cooke announced late last year that he was running for the Senate, hoping to win a seat on the Jesstopian Senate. That will give him the much needed experience to hopefully run a successful future presidential bid.

Many of his supporters said that they believed that he would attempt to run for the presidency in 2028, citing that his lack of experience made him the perfect candidate for the Jesstopian presidency. They said that him only being in politics since 2021, made him a non-career politician, therefore his interests are aligned with the people.

“I am honored to have served as the Presidential nominee for the Nationalist party during g the 2024 Presidential election, and the trust voters had in me to serve in that office,” said former Governor Thomas Cooke. “In politics, experience matters, therefore I am announcing that I will not be seeking the presidency in 2028. I know this will likely disappoint my supporters but I need time to prove my worth to more than just two fifth of voters.”

Thomas Cooke was crushingly defeated by Jay Laylin only receiving 82 vote bank points to Laylin’s 158 vote bank points, overwhelmingly winning the presidency. Cooke said that he had no plans to seek the presidency until he had experience and today’s announcement confirms that he is likely to seek the presidency after he gains more federal government experience.

Thomas Cooke was seen to have a clear path to victory in 2024, so his defeat shocked the Nationalist party and the global community. It doesn’t seem that Cooke is giving up the prospect of a presidency for himself, but that prospect will come later on down the road. His House run was a wake up call for all parties that never underestimate the underdog and that just because you have the majority, doesn’t mean that they don’t have their own ideas and values.

Troopers of the New Shire State Police as well as the State national guard is being activated to aid with the evacuation process.

Governor Lynn Rodgers issued Executive Order 045.275, and now requires the residents to evacuate. She says that anyone who fails to evacuate could either be arrested or will be liable for any injuries they sustain, including death. New Shire State Police and other emergency services will be aiding in the evacuation process.

"It is imperative that residents following the direction of the Governor's office, who is working with weather officials," said New Shire State Police Commissioner Lee Adams. "Your risk of dying is increased, and we are expecting 12 inches of water and that will cause major flooding and deadly flooding in low lying areas. She is working to provide you all with constant updates as the storms unfold."

New Shire lawmakers approved the final bill with zero support from Republican lawmakers. Further, the state legislature put in a reversal block clause in the bill, which will prevent the bill from being reversed if a Republican majority in the State legislature gets into power or if a future Governor is a Republican and attempts to reverse the safe haven bill.

"We are beyond proud of the work our allies in the State legislature were able to accomplish to get this safe haven law into act," said Kelly Costner, a member of the transgender community. "Governor Lynn Rodgers should also receive credit for advocating for the new bill, and ensuring protections exist within the bill to prevent the order from being reversed."

Governor Lynn Rodgers said in a recent statement that this law was pertinent for the preservation of rights of all Jesstopians and not just those who are deemed "straight."

"I am honored to announce that New Shire is now permanently a safe haven state for those who are looking to have gender affirming surgeries and related care. We will block the Federal government from preventing this care from being banned completely in this country." tweeted Governor Lynn Rodgers.

Rodgers has been advocating for pro-transgender protections on their right to healthcare and their right to gender affirming healthcare, before and since becoming New Shire's Governor back in May. She has been a strong ally to the transgender community as Jay Laylin rose through the ranks on his way to winning the Republican Presidential nomination and eventually his presidency.

She spoke out against his anti-trans rhetoric, even while he was campaigning around the United States Of Jesstopia. She called his rhetoric "dangerous," and "anti-Jesstopian." She said that his supporters were turning violent towards the community, and called out his anti-transgender policy for the continued hate towards trans individuals.

Now that New Shire signed into a law a bill that would protect trans individuals from persecution for having the gender affirming surgeries, the state is looking to further its partnership with States that too allow the gender affirming care and surgeries to be done in their states to focus on creating a bilateral relationship to cross protect these individuals in multiple states across the country.

NEWS 28 - The New Shire State Legislature says it is gearing up to fight the Laylin administration's plans to permanently prevent transgender women from competing against biological women in sports designed for women.

"The fact that my Nationalist colleagues want to allow an unfair balance of power, strength and opportunity, to not "hurt feelings," is quite frankly ridiculous," said State Representative Mavis Brown. "We must protect the sanctity and dignity of our women. For a biological male to compete with women is a disgrace and is unfair to say the least. We will fight every measure that the Nationalists propose to block President Jay Laylin's plans to block males from competing with women."

Governor Lynn Rodgers is scheduled to sign several bills into law that will biological males to compete with women, in any major sport in New Shire, but a federal ban, could weaken those laws. However, it is very likely that New Shire would fight and potentially sue the Laylin administration to get the ban reversed by the Supreme Court. But many civil rights groups are saying they'd join the lawsuit against Laylin's bans on transgender athletes being prevented from participating in women-related sports.

"I think it is wrong for a government to tell the people what they can and can not do with their bodies," said Erin Shulligan, a transgender civil rights activists. "There needs to be a strong roadblock to prevent government overreach, and that needs to start with the federal government."

New Shire's House and Senate are thinly controlled by a Nationalist Majority, but in 2026, that could change. Republicans, if they win control of one or both chambers of the legislature, could allow New Shire to pass anti-transgender legislation, and that would mark a major shift if that does happen. RUFUS - The State Of New Shire and its legislature has said that it won't prevent transgender women from competing with other females, as it they say it violates the right to freedom of expression and discriminates based on gender identity. Republican state legislators said that it will vote to prevent transgender women from competing in biological women's sports.

"The fact that my Nationalist colleagues want to allow an unfair balance of power, strength and opportunity, to not "hurt feelings," is quite frankly ridiculous," said State Representative Mavis Brown. "We must protect the sanctity and dignity of our women. For a biological male to compete with women is a disgrace and is unfair to say the least. We will fight every measure that the Nationalists propose to block President Jay Laylin's plans to block males from competing with women."

Governor Lynn Rodgers is scheduled to sign several bills into law that will biological males to compete with women, in any major sport in New Shire, but a federal ban, could weaken those laws. However, it is very likely that New Shire would fight and potentially sue the Laylin administration to get the ban reversed by the Supreme Court. But many civil rights groups are saying they'd join the lawsuit against Laylin's bans on transgender athletes being prevented from participating in women-related sports.

"I think it is wrong for a government to tell the people what they can and can not do with their bodies," said Erin Shulligan, a transgender civil rights activists. "There needs to be a strong roadblock to prevent government overreach, and that needs to start with the federal government."

New Shire's House and Senate are thinly controlled by a Nationalist Majority, but in 2026, that could change. Republicans, if they win control of one or both chambers of the legislature, could allow New Shire to pass anti-transgender legislation, and that would mark a major shift if that does happen. NEWS 28 - Governor Lynn Rodgers, a staunch Laylin critic says she will support efforts to curb illegal immigration, something that has stunned even the most left Nationalists. Rodgers says that she will work to advocate for immigrant rights.

Governor Lynn Rodgers who seemed very bitter that Laylin won the Presidency in October, said that she wasn't going to stand in his way, working to deport illegal immigrants. She said that State officials would cooperate with the President's deportation efforts, and would stand only to ensure cooperation between the State and Federal Government.

"This state will cooperate with federal efforts to deport illegals that are present within this country, and we will not stand in the way of President Jay Laylin's efforts to deport these individuals," said Governor Lynn Rodgers. "Our duty is to protect the people within our state and all over this country. These illegals don't belong in our country, and we can't stop the illegals from staying in our country."

This is a major shift of thinking from what she said when she ran for Governor last year. During her bid for Governor, she said that she would "never support deporting illegal immigrants as long as she was in power."

"What a slap in the face of sanctuary cities that have put their necks on the line to support these illegal immigrants," said Peach Tree City Mayor Frank De La Cruz. "We've worked so hard to put up sanctuary cities across the country, and we are proud to be able to give immigrants a place to stay while they wait to receive their asylum or permanent migrant status. Green cards have since been paused by the Laylin Administration. Further, these folks will be stripped of their rights to seek legal asylum in these cities. We will fight the Laylin Administrations hateful and racist deportation efforts, even if Governor Lynn Rodgers doesn't support our resistance."

While Jesstopia's inland states don't normally get hurricanes often, states like Mesa, and North Lorray(island portion of the state), will have really bad Hurricane seasons which are scheduled for next summer.

Governor Lynn Rodgers issued a statement a little before midnight, last night, citing that she expects up to 6 inches of water to hit portions of New Shire in mid-November. She also says that flooding is expected more north of Towton County and South of Rufus County in Nimitz County and Counties South of there.

"We are getting ready for the incoming heavy rain storms that hit our state annually in October through February. We know that this flooding season is expected to be even worse than previous years with up the 17 inches of water to hit specific portions of New Shire this year," said Governor Lynn Rodgers. "As of today[October 7, 2024], we will be implementing pre-flooding preparations and working to establish evacuation routes across our state that are expected to get heavy rains. We are working to prevent loss of life and hope that our residents take advantage of shelters that are being built around the state."

Jesstopian President John McCallum committed 1.2 Billion dollar to the state's storm response war chest. He issued that he would send troops all across the state to ensure a quick and successful rescue mission, to save trapped residents and ensure that residents who require oxygen and other life saving machines are also rescued.
