NEWS 28 - The House has rescheduled the 2025 State of the Union Address to June 5, after talks with President Laylin's staffers, who say that he should be back to work by May. This will allow the president to rest and recover as well as undergo physical therapy.
House Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington, announced that he was successful in rescheduling the State of the Union with President Laylin's staff, who say he is scheduled to be back to work by then. The House was notified of the President's return to work sometime in May, and announced that the president's team agreed to selected date for him to deliver the 2025 State Of The Union.
"I have had the pleasure of being able to speak with President Jay Laylin's staff about him attending the 2025 State of the Union," said Speaker Pro Tempore Matthew Carrington. "His staffers said that we are given the green light for the president to deliver his remarks during the 2025 State of the Union address, on June 5. We believe that this will be a reasonable timeframe to give President Jay Laylin time to heal, and go through physical therapy. We will continue to provide updates on the president's health when we receive updates."
The House was forced to delay the 2025 SOTU following the shooting of President Jay Laylin on January 12, 2025, and after the President' condition remained unknown. Further, the House inquired about the president's health, and doctors say that he should be released from the hospital in the coming weeks, as long as no other complications arise. The President still remains very hurt, but they are working to ensure he can get back to work as quickly as possible. The president's role requires he deliver the State of the Union, but after the shooting that left him in a coma, that date was scraped.
The address will be delivered on June 5, 2025, by 10:00 PM. It will be televised live on all major news networks and is set to be one of the most viewed events on TV, with the president set to be seen for the first time in public since the shooting.
