RUFUS - Federal investigators are still trying to unravel how a shooter was able to get access to President Jay Laylin at a steel plant and shoot him in the face early this morning. Officials are also questioning the shooter’s nationality and believe he could be of Mexican descent or a Mexican traveling in the United States Of Jesstopia.
The Federal Crimes Investigative Service says there was no doubt a lapse in security was a contributing factor in this shooting. They blame the field agents for not having the standard security measures in place at the time of the speech, which was scheduled to take place at 11:00 AM, and at the time the shooting took place. The Presidential Protective Service is set to be scrutinized by a Senate Judiciary Committee panel who is likely to grill PPS Director Gerald McFarland on the security lapse, mirroring what happened to former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheattle back in July.
”Currently we believe that the shooter who was successfully able to sneak into a secure area was from Mexico,” said FCIS Barry Wilkenson. “What is really concerning to me is how the PPS didn’t notice nor catch the shooter before it happened. We are still looking for the shooter, and we are set to begin question PPS agents who were responsible for his security. There’s more evidence to collect but we are working around the clock to ensure that we find the person who shot our President.”
The agency did say however that video surveillance cameras shows a young man between the ages of 18-25, and appears to be of Mexican descent. The FCIS says that they are looking for additional DNA evidence to find more information on the suspect. The Presidential Protective Service says they were not made aware of any threats to the President therefore were not planning for any attack that could potentially tally happen besides the security procedures they had in place.
According to sources close to the President, they have confirmed that he is in critical condition, and will face an extreme uphill battle in his recovery. Vice President Cole Bindle will continue to serve as the acting President until President Jay Laylin is able to reassume the duties of the Presidency.
