RUFUS - At 9:00 AM this morning, Matthew Carrington assumed the role as Speaker Pro Tempore, and will serve in that capacity until the September 5 election. Speaker Gretchen LeWolf stepped down as Speaker at 9:00 AM, handing the gravel over to her former Deputy. Carrington is set to address the first session of Congress tomorrow morning.
We reached out to his office for comment, but have yet to hear back from his office. We also reached out to former House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf's office but have not heard anything back from them either. Several representatives did issue statements regarding Carrington becoming temporary speaker.
"We are excited for Carrington the lead the house, while only temporarily, because he has what it takes to reach across the isle and work with the Republicans and President Jay Laylin," said Representative and former House Speaker Braden Harris, who also supporter LeWolf's ouster as House Speaker. "We need someone who will work for the Jesstopian people, and not work in her best interests. Former Speaker LeWolf failed her constituents and she failed the people in the border states."
Carrington is set to announce what votes the House will conduct first during his first full session as Speaker Pro Tempore tomorrow. But the Speaker's office remains vacant, Representatives could potentially move to fill the Speaker's chair before the September election, but the vote would need a majority support, and they aren't likely to get in right away.
