RUFUS - The Congress of the United States Of Jesstopia is officially on recess, and now that they are no longer in session, President Jay Laylin is set to take advantage of them being on recess, to authorize 18 million dollars to be sent to the border for border security and immigration prevention, something that President Laylin was unable to get passed in his first month in office.
Congress will resume on January 1, 2025, kicking off the 84th Congress, where it has multiple major investigations expected to begin, as well as major votes expected to be sent to the Senate and House floors. Furthermore, House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf is set to step down as House Speaker on January 5, 2025, and will hand the gavel over to Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington who will serve as Speaker Pro Tempore until the September 5, 2025 House Speaker election.
"We were able to accomplish so much this Congress and I thank each and everyone member of this chamber for their support and the trust they put in me to lead this great chamber," said Speaker Gretchen LeWolf. "I will open the 84th Congress before leaving the speaker's office, and return to my regular duties, Representing the great people of New Shire's 1st District. It has been the honor to serve as the 32nd Speaker Of The House. I look forward to what the future holds for our country and the next Speaker Of The House."
House and Senate proceedings are no longer being held until January 1, 2025, when the new session of Congress begins. Further, all Senate proceedings against House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf are now on hold until the start of the new session. It is very likely that the Senate will wait a couple of months after she leaves the Speaker's chair to continue its investigation.
Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington also issued a statement regarding his new role as Speaker Pro Tempore until September. He issued that he would work alongside President Jay Laylin to push through funding that will allow the border to be secured, Jesstopians to be safe and to ensure all legal immigration is the standard in the United States Of Jesstopia.
"When Congress returns on January 1, 2025, we will work towards pushing forward with our constitution obligations to provide results for the Jesstopian people and ensure we lock down our borders," said Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington. "On January 5, 2025, I will assume office as Speaker Pro Tempore, and will serve as the administrator of House proceedings. With me taking over as Speaker Pro Tempore, I will work to unify the House, while defending the people of this country."
President Jay Laylin said he looked forward to working more directly with Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington. He said that he will work to favorably get border policy signed, and work with his administration to ensure borders are secure.
"I am thankful to have someone who, although apart of the Nationalist Party, cares deeply for this country, and its people," said President Laylin. "With his help, we will lock down our borders, protect our women and children, and prevent mass illegal immigration. Something that Speaker LeWolf failed to do during her time as Speaker."
