NEWS 28 - The House Of The People has announced that it will not vote on the 2024 Inflation Reduction Act until after Congress resumes on January 1, 2025. Speaker Gretchen LeWolf says she won't push the bill onto the floor until after the Congressional recess ends.
The Senate may not likely vote on the bill until late summer early fall, but it says it will pressure House Speaker LeWolf to put the bill up to a floor vote as soon as Congress reconvenes for its 84th Session. House Majority Leader Gregory Wallace said that he would request the vote be pushed immediately upon the start of the 84th Congress on January 1, 2025.
"The House Speaker needs to ensure that we are pushing through important economic bills, no mater what president is sending them to Congress," said House Majority Leader Gregory Wallace. "The 2024 Inflation Reduction Act is very important to lowering costs and ensuring valuable economic growth. She is playing a dangerous game, of partisan politics, but we must work to negotiate, and do what is best for the Jesstopian people, not for the government."
Representative and former House Speaker Braden Harris said that by stalling this piece of legislation, she is ensuring that Jesstopians will suffer well into 2025, and she needs to get this bill on the House floor to allow Representatives to vote on the bill.
"It is disgraceful how she is holding bills as political hostages for some kind of political motivation," said Rep. Harris. "She is the speaker of the House, not a toddler in high school. These aren't just small decisions, they impact an entire country, so I call on her to do the right think and show bipartisan support to the president's bill proposals, especially if they are beneficial to our country. It is just disappointing on how out of control the Nationalist Party has become."
But the House says it will vote on other bill proposals that President Jay Laylin proposed in the last week, and says they hope to compromise on others that have already hit both the House and Senate, including several LGBTQ community-related bills. The Senate is now waiting for the House to vote on the bills, so they can be passed over to the Senate for its official vote.
"House Speaker is violating House rules by not allowing Representatives of the House to vote on the several bills being proposed," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Rodham. "Therefore I will push to invoke a clause of the Jesstopian constitution that allows the Senate to force a house vote on the 2024 Inflation Reduction Act. The clause can be found in Amendment 18 Title 125, Article 261 'Authorization Of The Senate Or House To Invoke A Mandatory Vote For A Legislative Session, To Pass Or Reject A Proposed Bill, Amendment Or Title And Article."
This clause of the constitution was amended to the constitution on April 19, 1928, when a gridlocked House refused to sign several bills into law, due to rifts between Speaker Errick LeMore and a ranking member of the Nationalist Party. The amendment was quickly passed to allow either chamber of Congress to force a vote with a simple majority vote.
