NEWS 28 - President-Elect Jay Laylin was traveling down Nox Boulevard when a gunman opened fire at his motorcade. Laylin supporters were waiving flags and chanting his name when gunshots were heart. People near the shooter saw PPS agents shoot and kill the gunman, cheering as PPS agents moved into cuff the gunman.
"This is the worst thing that could happen at this juncture, before Inauguration Day," said PPS Director David Calmarro. "President-Elect Jay Laylin, who back then was just a Presidential candidate, was shot at while his family slept last month. The PPS is still investigating that shooting which is set to take over a year or more to full investigate. Now we are dealing with a second assassination attempt on a President-Elect, just a day after a YouTuber was arrested for threatening messages against Jay Laylin. He is now being questioned about today's shooting attempt against Jay Laylin. We will provide more updates as they are needed."
The shooter's identity is not being released at this time according a PPS spokesperson. The shooter was killed by the PPS agents, who are being praised for their quick actions. The Presidential Protective Service has said that President-Elect Jay Laylin is safe and says "he is in good spirits."
President John McCallum condemned the shooting calling it a "act against the United States Of Jesstopia."
"I don't know why political violence against our nation's leaders is on the rise," said President John McCallum. "I am abhorred that such an act can happen less than two months after a gunman attempted to kill Jay Laylin last month. We are working to provide as much security to President-Elect Jay Laylin and Vice President-Elect Cole Bindle as well."
Other officials including Speaker Gretchen LeWolf and Senate Majority Leader Larry Cofelt had called President-Elect Laylin to ensure he was doing well and called for National unity ahead of Jay Laylin's inauguration.
"There is so much that is wrong with what happened today," said Speaker LeWolf. "All politics aside, Jay Laylin is still a human and he will be the next President Of The United States Of Jesstopia. The fact that someone again, tried to take the life of a major political figure. It is unacceptable and the House will investigate this assassination attempt."
Senate Majority Leader Larry Cofelt says that actions against any President or President-Elect is a crime, unacceptable and needs to stop.
"These acts of violence against Jay Laylin are unacceptable and should not happen and things must change," said Cofelt. "We are grateful to learn that he is okay and is in good spirits. We will follow the House's decision to fully investigate this assassination attempt."
