NEWS 28 - Three New Shire State Police Troopers are dead following an ambush at their headquarter building earlier this evening. The three troopers involved were filing final paperwork before going home for the night. Several local and state officials have expressed disgust over the slayings.
The three troopers had gone to the station to file paperwork and go home for the night. At around 5:49 PM, troopers radioed for back up as they attempted to shoot down the gunman who ultimately shot and killed the 3, by shooting them in the head.
"What happened at this afternoon is a reminder for stricter gun laws and measures to protect law enforcement officers," said Governor Lynn Rodgers. "I am appalled that such brave men were slaughtered in this matter. I am lowering all state and Jesstopian flags to half staff until they are buried. My hearts and prayers go out to the families of these three amazing human beings who risked their lives for our protection before being brutally gunned down."
The New Shire State Police, and Lakeland Police Department are currently investigating the shooting. The troopers identities are not being released pending notification of their families.
"What we saw today is unacceptable and incredibly heart breaking," said NSSP Commissioner Lee Adams. "They risked their lives day in, and day out to protect all of us, just to be gunned down in their workspaces. We will find the monster who took these three men from their mom's, sisters, wives and children. We are seeking the maximum penalty for the shooter."
Lt. Governor David Rivera also expressed in disgust in the actions of the shooter and says he prays for the families of the three troopers who were killed. Those trooper's identities are being withheld pending notification of their respective families.
"I'm in shock, and utter disbelief, that something like this can still happen today," said Lt. Governor David Rivera. "My heart absolutely shatters for the families who are about to receive the worst news of their life, and to the many troopers who knew him, worked with him and cared for him. This is disgraceful and the animal responsible should be punished to the fullest extend of the law."
