ALDEN - A Mesa Criminal Court Judge on Wednesday handed down a sentence of 80 hours community service and to attend 1 year of Alcoholics Anonymous classes after his DUI Arrest on Monday. The son of the Late Kirk Paul, crashed his car into a ditch after a night out of drinking.
"I look at most cases and try to understand what a person is going through, and look at their personal life circumstances," said Judge Georgina Martin. "I know what you've been through, Alex, the loss of your brother Matt, and last month the loss of you dad. But what you need to understand is that driving under the influence can and will kill someone. In your case, the only casualty in your crash was the car. Today, I sentence you to no jail time, but you must serve 80 hours of community service and attend 1 year of alcoholics anonymous. This is the sentence that I will hand down to you. Failure to report to any AA meeting, or failure to participate in the 80 hours of community service will result in a warrant being issued for you arrest."
The Judge handed down the sentence to the former Governor Of Mesa's son, but critics say that the judge favorited Alex over similar cases to his. They say that because he was a politicians son, he was give preferential treatment, instead of the charges that coincide with his charge.
"So to get out of DUI, relatively unscathed, I have to be a politician's son?," exclaimed a Alden County resident. "He should be in jail and have a record. This is absurd. Preferential treatment results in non-corrective behavior. I'm sure Alexis Paul had some hand in the reduced sentence."
