NEWS 28 - The Congress Of The United States Of Jesstopia made history passing an increase to the age requirement to run for the United States Of Jesstopia's highest executive office, the President. But as the age increase takes affect, many wondered if Jay Laylin, 34, would still be eligible for office after this change.
"We are pleased to have passed this amendment," said Senator Joey Rigg. "It is very important that the leader of our country is mature and has experience. This age limit was increased to ensure that our nation is in responsible hands. Experts say 35 is the prime age for maturity, and Congress took that into consideration when we decided to increase the age limit back in 2022."
House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf did say that Jay Laylin was eligible to run during the 2024 Presidential race as he filed previous to the updated age limit, which was at the time he filed his candidacy was 29 years old. She said it would be unfair to not let him continue to run.
"Both Houses of Congress have agreed and voted to increase the age limit to run for President to 35 years old," said Speaker LeWolf. "We have considered Jay Laylin's age at the time he filed, was within the legal age limit, thus making him still eligible to run for office."
Both the House and Senate have concurred at her position and Laylin will not have to drop out of the race at this juncture. Republicans have praised the decision by Nationalists to support his Presidential bid, something Republicans feared Nationalists would cash in on.
"I praise House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf for allowing Laylin to run for the Presidency, even as the age limit has increased would have invalidated his candidacy status," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Rodham. "It shows that she and the Nationalists respect the work and funding that was put into Laylin's campaign. I thank the House speaker for supporting the continuation of his campaign."
Jay Laylin has been eagerly awaiting the results of the vote, some say biting his nails at the decision that LeWolf just gave. He praised her decision to let him continue to run.
"I am grateful to House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf for allowing me to continue seeking the Presidency," said Laylin. "She could have just as easily said the Republican party needs to find a new candidate. Thank you, Mrs. Speaker for doing what is right."
By all accounts, LeWolf had the very right to tell the Republican Party to find a new candidate to run against Thomas Cooke. But she didn't. Political experts say that she could have killed Laylin's campaign but didn't saying it was "commendable," and "respectable."
