RUFUS - Congress has just announced that it formally passed the age increase to 35 to be able to run for the Presidency. The amendment was passed after both Houses of Congress agreed to the age increase.
Currently the age limit to run for President is 29 years old. The increase comes just months before the 2024 Presidential Election, where Jay Laylin is only 34 years old and won't be 35 until June of 2025.
"Both Houses of Congress have agreed and voted to increase the age limit to run for President to 35 years old," said Speaker LeWolf. "We have considered Jay Laylin's age at the time he filed, was within the legal age limit, thus making him still eligible to run for office."
Both the House and Senate have concurred at her position and Laylin will not have to drop out of the race at this juncture. Republicans have praised the decision by Nationalists to support his Presidential bid, something Republicans feared Nationalists would cash in on.
"I praise House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf for allowing Laylin to run for the Presidency, even as the age limit has increased would have invalidated his candidacy status," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Rodham. "It shows that she and the Nationalists respect the work and funding that was put into Laylin's campaign. I thank the House speaker for supporting the continuation of his campaign."
