NEWS 28 - Sharona Maples, who serves as the Director of the Federal Crimes Investigative Service said that she is surprised that Kimberly Cheattle, the Director of the Secret Service resigned, but said that she "made the right choice" resigning.
Cheattle was the US Secret Service director from 2022 until her resignation yesterday. But now that she has resigned following her poor performance in front of a House hearing. She refused to answer any questions that either Senators or Representatives asked her, and angered Senators and Representatives from both sides of the aisle. She said "she would not" resign after being asked.
Just one day later, she announced that she would resign after major backlash and the fall out of his mishandling of the Trump Rally security. But as her resignation takes place, calls for other members of the Secret Service to resign also flood in and many are calling for accountability.
"Cheattle finally resigned and I think that was the best decision she could have made in the grand scheme of everything that has been unfolding in the United States," said Director Maples. "If she hadn't I am very sure that the US House would have found ways to remove her from that post if President Biden also failed to fire Kimberly Cheattle. I will say this one last time, no former or current president or presidential nominee should ever almost lose their life do to incompetent leaders. Cheattle was one of those and should never be the director or head of anything."
Presidential Protective Service interim Director David Calmarro has not made any statements regarding the resignation of Cheattle as of yet, but sources say we can expect a statement from him some time tomorrow or later this week. He did however condemn the inaction of Cheattle.
"When you direct such an important agency, your responsibility to protect any and all protectees is paramount," said Director Calmarro. "The Trump shooting serves as a reminder that updated training is needed and we must continue to adapt our services to the changing political environment."
President McCallum also weighed in on the resignation of US Secret Service Director Kim Cheattle.
"I think her stepping down is the best decision she could make," said President McCallum. "Donald Trump should never have been shot, and I agree with Director Cheattle that the shooting was a severe collapse of security and it should not be allowed to occur. There needs to be strong leadership in a role like the US Secret Service and even here with the Presidential Protective Service."
