NEWS 28 - The House Ethics Counsel early this morning found House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf guilty of modifying several key documents important to President John McCallum's 2022 Sexual Harassment case. She did not modify any document related to the Sexual Misconduct case and those charges were dropped.
"Today we find House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf guilty of voluntarily modifying or altering a federal document without prior approval and tampering with evidence," said the joint counsel in a statement. "The findings of the last two month's investigation find that she is liable for the evidence tampering and that she will be eligible for removal from her post as the 32nd Speaker Of The House Of The People."
Senate Republicans are already preparing removal inquiries, which are required to pass the Senate and then pass the House in order to remove her. Senate Majority Leader Larry Cofelt says he will not support her removal or any attempts at doing so.
"This was all a scapegoat case, that was seeking to remove Speaker Gretchen LeWolf because she poses a severe threat to their 2024 Presidential Chances," said an angry Cofelt. "This will be the first time any Speaker Of The House is facing removal from office in a politically motivated scheme. I will ensure an end to the removal attempt."
Many Senate Nationalists are voicing their anger at the motion, saying that the attempt will be dead on arrival to the floor. Nationalists hold a majority in both the House and Senate so it is simply a "political display," with no "true bearing or possibility of succeeding."
House Deputy Speaker Matthew Carrington says he would likely see a temporary role as Speaker if the removal is successful, which he says "will not happen with a Nationalist majority."
She has been found guilty, so the Senate and eventually the House will do what they may with today's order. We expect that she will keep her job but likely a tricky time getting reelected to the Speaker's chair in 2025.
